    We walked down the road from our hotel (the way to the beach) in search of food. We found the amazing little place. The couple we so nice and made really yummy food and drinks! And so cheap! 200 Baht for food and 2 drinks. And they gave us some delicious soup for free too!!Leggi altro

    bus ride

    The bus is this rickety old thing the the locals squish onto. It's hilarious and fantastic. I'm so happy I decided to take the bus and not pay way more to get picked up by a bus company. I saw amazing views, got the local experience and it was practically free!
    People can just flag him down and he stops. Or they press a little button and he stops immediately.
    Sitting at the back of a packed open bus, I was reminded that everyone honk at each other here. Sometimes it's a rude honk, but sometimes it's a "hey, I'm here, don't kill me please. Thanks!"    Leggi altro

    Missed the bus

    So I made it to the train station where I was going to get the bus to Surat, but I got there 30 mins after the last bus left. So, I found this hostel literally at the bus station and it is cheap but comfortable. I'm in a room with 3 other people, who are all quiet. There was a warm shower and the bed is clean and not too hard.
    I'll get up early in the morning and get the first bus, which is at 7 am. We'll see where I make it tomorrow!    Leggi altro

    Phuket Night Market

    Ich bin zum Night Market hin und bin rumgelaufen. Alles war mit Fisch oder Fleisch.
    Dann sprach mich eone Frau an ob ich ihre Nudelsuppe mit Hühnchen oder Fisch haben will. Und ich sagte ich suche etwas ohne Fisch und Fleisch
    Sie sagte: mit Gemüse? Gebraten? Mit Nudeln? Und mit Ei?
    Und ich sagte: oh ja bitte!
    Und das hat sie dann für mich gemacht
    War super lecker

    hard bed

    So my night at the hostel wasn't as good as I thought it was going to be. The comfy bed was actually really hard and I woke up a million times. Finally at 5:30am I got up to go to tue bathroom and after that I apparently was done sleeping for the night. At 6 am I got my things quietly out of the room into the hall to pack using as little light as possible, because the other 3 people in the room were still sleeping. The door to our room was really hard to open and close quietly, but I had managed to do it quietly when I had gone to the bathroom and the night before. But after I had gotten all of my things out in the morning....BAM! I shut the door really loudly! Oops! Sorry!Leggi altro

    the back seat

    I stayed in Phuket town last night at a hostel directly at the bus station. I was told the ticket guy is there at 6:30, but I didn't think he would be sold out in 15 minutes! 😲 When I asked for a ticket for the 7 am bus he said it was full and the next one would be at 8. I complained a little bit and tried to see if there was another bus that would take me in a similar direction. After about 5 minutes he waved to me and said I actually could go on the 7 am bus. What!?!? I this bus full or isn't it?!?!
    Well, I got to go on the bus and all the seats are full except the ENTIRE last row in the back of the bus! How cool is THAT!!! So, I will sleep this 4 hour bus ride nice and comfortable! Yes!
    Damn! 30 mins later someone got in. 60 mins later we were all squished in the back like sardines. Oh well. At least I got to get on the bus!    Leggi altro

    Chalok beach

    On my morning walk this morning I met a girl from Washington who's living here. She said her favorite beach is Chalok beach. So that's where I went today. It was a nice relaxing afternoon of swimming, reading, cold drinks and my first motorbike ride!
    The ride was my "taxi" back from the beach. They charge a standard fare of 300 baht, but on the way there I talked the driver (there it was a truck) down to 150 Baht. So, on the way back was also not going to pay 300. I said 200 or I'd walk. And they said ok, 200 on the bike. And I said ok, sure! It was an older guy that I was making the deal with. Once we agreed a younger guy was like "Oh! I'll take her!" Haha! At least that what it looked like they were saying...it was all in Thai.
    It was fun way to get back to my hotel. I'm not sure I feel comfortable driving one myself yet though.    Leggi altro
