  • Field Trip to Another Dargah

    8 de fevereiro de 2024, Índia ⋅ ☀️ 59 °F

Today we visited the dargah of Hazrat Khwaja Qutbuddin Bakhtiyar Kaki — 18th Pir in the Chishti lineage of HIK. He died in 1235 or 1236. Women not allowed…the men in our group are seen walking through the lattice work. The wall plaque shows the silsila before him.Leia mais

  • Our Group in Agra

    10 de fevereiro de 2024, Índia ⋅ ☀️ 73 °F

Six of us are in Agra now. Our tour guide is Mohammed. He takes good care of us and gives us lots of good advice and bits of wisdom. He also knows the best places to eat and shop!

  • Making the Rugs

    10 de fevereiro de 2024, Índia ⋅ 🌙 63 °F

This woman is part of the family rug business and demonstrated how the weaving and knotting is done to make the rugs. She has a paper pattern available but doesn’t refer to it. Instead she has the pattern memorized!
I was guided through the same steps — it would take me forever to make a rug!

  • Fatehpur Sikri

    11 de fevereiro de 2024, Índia ⋅ ☀️ 72 °F

We visited the beautiful dargah of Shaykh Salim Chishti (1478-1571) in the town of Fatehpur Sikri. He is a descendant of Hazrat Khwaja Moineddun Chishti. When Murshid Samuel Lewis visited this dargah he received the inspiration for the Dances of Universal Peace. The last picture shows strings tied around the lattice work in the dargah. We were given about 18 inches of string to tie a knot and make three wishes. Women allowed in this dargah.Leia mais

  • Fatehpur Sikri Animals

    11 de fevereiro de 2024, Índia ⋅ ☀️ 68 °F

So many animals live and roam freely in India. I can’t get pictures of all them — we’re usually driving and pass them quickly. Or, it’s dark. Dogs everywhere! Today was the first time I saw pigs.
Pictures I couldn’t get today were more monkeys, water buffalo, and donkeys. I really wish I could have taken a picture of a field of dogs we passed on the way back to Agra. There must have been 100 at least…Mohammed said too many!

  • Leaving Agra

    12 de fevereiro de 2024, Índia ⋅ ☁️ 61 °F

Mariam and I returned to Agra on the 11th for one more night and the others traveled on to Jaipur. We decided to go back to Delhi earlier than planned on the 12th but not before making one more purchase…another suitcase!
Took some other pics on the way out of town. Said goodbye to Mohammed…

  • Back in Delhi for the Night

    12 de fevereiro de 2024, Índia ⋅ ☁️ 63 °F

Arrived back in Delhi around 4:00 Monday afternoon. It’s about a 4-hour ride. We walked up to Kamal’s for dinner and visited there with Waduda and Tariq for a little bit. Had to find an ATM…too much shopping in Agra! This sweet little cat lives outside the bank. A covered cardboard box is set up for I’ll say her…blankets for softness and warmth inside, food and water bowls outside.
Walked back to La Sagrita, turn right at the beautiful copper bells suspended in the trees. The outside doorman is so very kind. Love Sunder Nagar!
    Off to Anandashram tomorrow…

  • Mangalore

    13 de fevereiro de 2024, Índia ⋅ ☁️ 70 °F

Up early Tuesday morning for a flight south to Mangalore. From there we’ll drive 2-1/2 hours or so to Anandashram, the ashram of Papa Ramdas in the Kerala area.
It feels like the airport is being refreshed and renewed. Beautiful artwork reflecting the people of the area and of India. My favorite is the Sun Salutation poses sculpted in a spiral. We saw a similar presentation in Agra along the street…amazing! Not in a spiral though, one pose after the other, in order of course. Going too fast to get a video of that. Felt happy that I could capture this one. Also love that there’s a prayer room at the airport! And then, Krispy Kreme…say what???Leia mais
