After our time in Monaco, we headed back to Nice, but with a stop at the hilltop village of Eze. It is definitely a 'wow' place.
The original village was built on top of a rocky crag and first populated in 2000BC. It’s been described as an ‘eagle’s nest’ and became a prized stronghold of the Celts and Romans. Much of it was rebuilt after an earthquake in 1887 destroyed it.
At the top is the Jardin Ezotique, a garden of cactii which is worth seeing, but it was the view back towards Nice and across the peninsula of Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat that takes your breath away. It was worth the walk up the steep and narrow cobble-stoned walkways.Read more
