  • Greece cottage country

    4 juni 2019, Grekland ⋅ ⛅ 23 °C

We started our exploration of Greece in a little seaside cottage, northwest of Athens. The town of Alyki looks like a retreat for the city folk. It boasts a tiny fishing harbour, an old castle on the hill and spectacular ocean views. We had a quiet stay here catching up on our schoolwork and just being on our own again.
We met a cat on the second day there. She was meowing a lot and we found it cute at first but when she kept meowing through the night it got really annoying. The next day we realized that the cat lived there and we were allowed to feed her and she quieted down quickly after that! Geoff got out for a morning hike and we swam on the beach below us. The only downside I can think of was a complete and utter lack of tonic water for the afternoon cocktails.

  • Visiting the Earth's belly button

    5 juni 2019, Grekland ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

Apparently, Zeus (Greek god of the sky) released 2 eagles from different ends of the earth, and they met in Delphi - thereby establishing it as the centre or “navel” of the World. It is also home to the famous Oracle of Pythia - consulted for millennia by kings, heroes, and tourists... there’s not much left to look at, but standing in the shadow of Mount Parnassus, you can certainly see why it inspired awe and worship!Läs mer

  • Sailing the ocean blue...

    9 juni 2019, Grekland ⋅ ⛅ 30 °C

We have finally been joined in Athens by cousin Arlo, Uncle Doug, and Aunt Netami - whoot whoot! For our last hurrah before we head back home we have commandeered the sailing ship Blackjack (a 54ft Beneteau for those in the know about these things). The Greek gods are certainly smiling upon us as they have bestowed us with gorgeous sunny skies, ample wind for sailing and an awesome skipper named Joe. We had a super time visiting tiny island communities, fishing villages and gorgeous beaches.Läs mer

  • Dolphins ho!

    10 juni 2019, Grekland ⋅ ⛅ 26 °C

Captain Joe spotted some dolphins playing off the port side. We slowed down to watch them and they came over to visit us! We saw them swimming under the boat and leaping in front of our bow and sometimes they rolled on their side to take a look at us. The Aegean is an amazing place!Läs mer

  • Athens

    16 juni 2019, Grekland ⋅ ⛅ 29 °C

During our last days of the trip we were busy exploring the 2500 year old town of Athens! We went to see the Parthenon on top of the Acropolis in Athens. The Parthenon was very cool but it was under construction so you couldn’t actually tell how old it was. On the way up to the Parthenon we saw soldiers wearing funny skirts and goofy shoes. We went exploring through a flea market and we found a store with only rubber ducks for sale!
    Talk to you soon, Malcolm!😎🤩🥳🇨🇦

  • Home sweet Home at Last

    20 juni 2019, Kanada ⋅ 🌧 18 °C

We finally arrived back home today at around 4pm and everyone was thinking the same thing... Where’s Gus? We found him hiding under the bed but surprisingly, he didn’t mind us petting him.

Every one of us is so very grateful for this amazing country we live in and for all of our family, friends and neighbours who have been so warm in welcoming us home.

We want to thank all of you who followed along (in part or in whole) on our adventure. It was truly very comforting to know we weren’t alone on our trip. We look forward to reconnecting with real-life hugs for everyone as soon as we can and taking the time to hear about your year.

    - Geoff, Lara, Chloë, Malcolm and Dale
