  • Hellfire Bay

    8 marzo, Australia ⋅ ☁️ 26 °C

Next up, Hellfire Bay! Definitely my favorite one!
A little bit bigger than Thistle Cove and also not too many people here!
I just loved it instantly. Went for another swim, as it is not as windy here. But the wind is picking up more and more unfortunately.
Here I stayed quite a while just soaking in the view and all. Sunscreen I applied regularly! Super important under the strong sun here.

  • Thistle Cove

    8 marzo, Australia ⋅ ☁️ 28 °C

Next up, Thistle Cove. Definitely not as crowded as Lucky Bay! I like it!
Also much smaller and no cars at the beach. That's what I like. Unfortunately it was super windy here and it was getting worse and worse after lunch time. I was not swimming here but was walking around the beach, enjoying the white sand and picture perfect ocean. How beautiful is this place?! I can't believe it's real and that I am really here, right now!
And guess what, I met the guys from the Nullabor again. Still wondering if the traction control lamp is still on, of course it is 🙈😂

  • Lucky Bay

    8 marzo, Australia ⋅ ☁️ 28 °C

First stop, the famous Lucky Bay. I stood at the car park and couldn't believe my eyes. Wow it is so beautiful here! I think in reality it's even better than in the pictures.
I went down to the beach and jumped straight into the crystal clear water. Colder than expected but so refreshing. I loved it!

Unfortunately there were no kangaroos around but I understand it. The beach is super crowded with a lot of cars on the beach.
For me it was too many people here, so I left after a little bit more than one hour to go to the next dream location.

  • Esperance Great Ocean Drive

    7 marzo, Australia ⋅ ☀️ 28 °C

After a quick lunch break I did the Coastal Drive in and around Esperance. Got the nap from the lady in the I-side and stopped at so many sooooo beautiful beaches on the way. Wow, how amazing is it here! And the weather is just perfect, not too much wind, 33 degrees...
I even did a short walk which was really nice to stretch my legs again after many hours of driving.
My favorite beach was 11 Mile Beach. ( The last pictures)
From here it was only a 10 minute drive to the campground. I arrived around 5:20 pm.
First I took a shower and after that I cooked dinner in the camp kitchen. And met some nice people.
I anyway went to bed early, I was really tired but already looking forward to another hot day with picture perfect beaches! 🤩

  • Balladonia to Esperance via Norseman

    7 marzo, Australia ⋅ ☀️ 18 °C

I woke up at 5:30 am already. The sun is already up here. It's the same light as it is at 7 am in South Australia. Crazy.
I tried to sleep a little bit more bit got up around 7 am. After breakfast and packed up, fueled up and was back on the road at 8:30 am
It's 290km to Norsemen, the end of the Nullabor. I arrived in Norsemen at 10:30 am. Quick stop at the I-side to get my certificate and a quick toilet break before I was back on the road, next stop: Esperance!
I made it to Esperance shortly before 1 pm. I went straight to the I-side to get some information about the road conditions in the Cape Le Grand National Park. I thought I could spend the night at Lucky Bay... Well, no the woman at the I-side laughed when I asked her if I can book the campground here.. booked out 6 month in advance.. well I was not expecting that.. Too bad. She was then saying: I hope you find a campground in Esperance, what I heard are all booked out too. 😳
She gave me a list with all campgrounds and number so I will be calling around now.
She also gave me a lot of information about things to do, where to go and which way would be best for my other travel plans. She was amazing. Leaving the I-side I started to call the campground, the 5. one I called had one side free! Booked in for two nights, don't care what it costs. I am staying at the Pink Lake Campground.

  • Nullabor to Balladonia Roadhouse

    6 marzo, Australia ⋅ 🌬 22 °C

Boarder Control was an easy thing. I was well prepared and had nothing with ne, that is not allowed to take over the border. The control took less than 5 minutes. Nice!
    Hello WA!
I fueled up in Eucla, 2,33$ is good! Heard people had paid 2,90$ per liter, which is insane!
I always try to find the cheaper gas stations and I am very successful with it!
Kept driving and driving. Quite boring as there is not so much to see and nothing to do. I stopped for fuel again and in-between if I needed a break. I got over my dead point quite well and was feeling good to go all the way to Balladonia. It's crazy that I am passing through 2 time zones. The first one was - 1 hour and 45 min. The second one was - 45 min.
    Crazy!
At the sign for the 90 mile stretch I met the group of people again, that looked at my car at the Head of the Bright. And they were like, Hi how is the car going? Lamp is off now? Nope, but I am good to drive. Was really nice to meet them again and we had a little chat for like 15 minutes or so until it was time to hit the road again. 80 miles straight ahead. Not even one turn, nothing! Total crazy!
From here it was less than two hours to Balladonia.
Today I only saw three dingos, one was keen to get hit by my car but I managed to break in time and one eagle.
But I saw at least 10 people passing the Nullabor on a bicycle 😳
I arrived here after 9 hours and 15 minutes on the road, at 6:15 pm South Australia time. Western Australia time was 3:45 pm.
I first rested a little bit, then went for a shower and cooked a quick dinner. I got super tired then and went to bed before 8 pm (10:30 pm) 😂

  • Bunda Cliffs

    6 marzo, Australia ⋅ 🌬 20 °C

I first woke up around 5:30 am. Way too early, Luckily I was falling asleep again. I woke up again from my neighbor starting his motorcycle. He wanted to leave at 6 am, but it wasn't dark outside anymore so I checked the clock, it was 7:38 am. Perfect time for me to wake up. So I got ready, had breakfast, packed up and was ready to go at 8:45 am. Just to brush my teeth, last toilet round and check the pressure from my tyres left. I was on the road at 9 am.
It's super cloudy, around 20 degrees and still blowing a lot. But definitely not as much wind as yesterday. It was good, I stayed here. My neighbor said it was horrible to pass the Bus near Cliffs as you are so close to the ocean. The wind was so strong there..
No goal for today, just see how long I can manage to drive. 💪
First Stopps were the three lookout for the Bunda Cliffs! So beautiful! 😍
But the cold antarctic wind is really annoying me! At least I had some spots with the sun and blue sky in between.

  • Road to the Nullabor Roadhouse

    5 marzo, Australia ⋅ 🌬 26 °C

Some pictures from the road. To get a picture with the Nullabor sign I had to turn around again. I missed it first 🙈
But it was just 3,5km back. But to drive east is even weirder with the horrible wind, because passing a road train is a nightmare. The wind hits you so hard after passing one, it almost got me off the road 😳
As I reached the Nullabor Roadhouse, fuel here is 2,75$ per liter. 😳
I decided to call roadside assistance to tell them that the tractor control lamp is on and to ask, what they want me to do. He said, a specialist is calling me back soon and I should discuss this with him. After over two hours of waiting, I couldn't continue to drive as I will lose my cellphone connection again, I called them again. The woman was very helpful finding the information we needed and told me, I am good to go. The plan is, to call them again as I reach Norsemen and the light is still on. She left the case open anyway, so the specialist is calling me as soon as possible. At that time it was 4:25 pm. Blowing like hell, 200km left to Eucla, where I normally wanted to go today... I decided I will stay here tonight.
So I checked in at the campground. Parked up, got a nice neighbor and had wraps for dinner, way too windy to try to cook something. The sand is everywhere..
Went to bed early, plan is to hit the road before 9 am tomorrow morning.

  • Head of the Bright

    5 marzo, Australia ⋅ 🌬 23 °C

Next stop, Head of the Bright.
It's so hard to drive with this horrible wind. On the way here, at some point the traction control lamp went on. I was freaking out a little bit, but still quite sure, it's not a big problem. As I reached the Visitor Center there was a group of 4 people and I asked the guys if they were good at cars. So they took a look and said I should be fine to keep on driving. I should try to turn it off when I am leaving but otherwise it's nothing to worry about. That felt sooo good to hear.
I decided to pay the 10$ entry fee to go to the lookout and it was sooooo worth it!! Wow the Cliffs are amazing!!!

  • Penong Windmill Museum

    5 marzo, Australia ⋅ 🌬 22 °C

I woke up early because someone was leaving at 6 am already. I didn't feel like getting up so early so I tried to fall asleep again but gave up at 6:50 am.
It's super windy outside. Where did this come from?
    It's really blowing 😳
So I got up and had breakfast. I had to get to the camp kitchen as it was too windy to sit outside. Sand was flying around like hell. My clean windows were super sandy, again!
I got ready and packed it all and left the campground at 8:45 am. First Stopp, the gas station, to check the tyres one more time and clean the windows. So I was on the road at 9 am. Nullabor here I come!
First stop, the Penong Windmill Museum. A collection of old windmills from all over Australia.

  • Day off

    4 marzo, Australia ⋅ ☀️ 31 °C

Today I am having a rest day. Really needed especially because I am going to hit the Nullabor tomorrow! That will be a long drive, probably 3 days, we will see!
I checked the pressure of my tyres, cleaned the window, fueled up and went shopping. Just no fruits and vegetables, because you are not allowed to bring fruits and vegetables over the border to Western Australia! I think I am well prepared. I got some tips from my neighbors, but they said I will be fine! So that feels good!
Got my laundry done too today and otherwise I was just relaxing and reading. I want to get up early tomorrow to leave around 9 am!
Perfect day to have a day off, it was 34 degrees today 😎

  • Road to Ceduna

    3 marzo, Australia ⋅ ⛅ 22 °C

On the way to Ceduna I stopped a few times for a short break, lunch or just to take a picture. I arrived at the campground at 3:30 pm and was pretty tired. Good that I decided already that tomorrow is a day off for me! I will stay here and only fix some small things, like washing all, cleaning the windows from Berta, very needed! Check the tyre pressure and buy some stuff.
No fruits or vegetables, I have to eat up all fruits and vegetables until I hit the road again. You are not allowed to take them over the South Australia - Western Australia Boarder.

  • Whistling Rocks,Cape Bauer& Hallys Beach

    3 marzo, Australia ⋅ ☀️ 19 °C

After a super windy night, I woke up a few times because it was blowing so much, I had a calm morning and a good breakfast. The seagulls thought my breakfast looked good and they were hoping to get something, but no change! I don't share my food 😂
After that I went to the I-side for some information about the road conditions. That was really helpful! So I started to drive to Cape Bauer. Fucking unsealed road again, not super bad but not good either.
I stopped at the Whispering Rock and blow holes first. Nice place but to calm the ocean today. Yesterday must have been the perfect day. Next up Cape Bauer. Also a really nice coastline here. I turned around and drove the same way back, as the rest of the loop should be in bad condition. Thanks to the lady from the I-side! On the way back I stopped at Hally's Beach for a short walk over the beach.

  • Murphy's Haystacks

    2 marzo, Australia ⋅ ☀️ 25 °C

The last stop for today was at Murphy's Haystacks. This is so unreal.
Haven't anything like a j the way here, neither on the way to Streaky Bay. Only here are these rocks. Totally crazy and so cool.
From here I went straight to Streaky Bay. It wasn't nice to drive with all the wind.
The rest of the afternoon was calm. I was trying to come up with a plan for the Nullabor. Am I having a rest day here tomorrow or in Ceduna the day after? I don't like the campground here too much, but who knows how the campground in Ceduna is? I think Ceduna would be better, because then I start the Nullabor fresh and powerful! 💪

  • Venus Bay

    2 marzo, Australia ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C

Next up, Venus Bay. I first checked out the boat ramp and found a big group of pelicans hoping to get some fish. Don't think it was successful but they tried.

I then went to a lookout and had lunch. From here it was only a short drive to the South Head Walking Trail.
As it was getting more and more windy I quickly started the walk. It should get really windy in the evening.
It was a nice walk, longer than I was expecting, but really nice with amazing views.
And my feeling was right, I had to do the walk. I saw dolphins again 😍 How amazing!!
    I can't believe how lucky I am!

  • Elliston Touristik Drive

After a calm morning I started the day with a stop at the beach and then went for the Elliston Touristik Drive. Gravel road, but not too bad, different place to stop at, with nice views and some sculptures.
At the last stop I watched some surfers sliding down to the ocean, wondering how they wanted to get back up again. 🤔

Two dogs were running and playing around here. And suddenly I had a dog laying down his stick in front of me, asking me to play with him. I could resist too long.

The last stop for today was at Little Bay. There was a nice walk around the area, so I couldn't resist and went for a walk. Nice view over the coastline and the cliffs.

I arrived at the campground around 5 pm. I was first reading a little bit to come down, then went for a nice shower and had dinner. The rest of the evening I was reading. It got quite windy again during the afternoon. Seems to be normal.. it's annoying a little bit, but as long as it's not super windy it's ok.Leggi altro

    1 marzo, Australia ⋅ ☀️ 24 °C

Time to leave the Coffin Bay National Park behind and drive to Elliston, where I will spend the night.
I stopped for a lunch break at the Cummings Monument Lookout, but I walked the road up to the lookout. The gravel road was looking really bad. Definitely the right decision! The view was fantastic again.
Found the old Lake Hamilton Eating House on the way too.

  • Yangie Bay Walk

    1 marzo, Australia ⋅ ☀️ 20 °C

The first stop was at the Yangie Bay Campground. I decided to do the Yangie Bay Walk. Nice walk, not too steep but I got up on a hill to get a nice view over the bay.
On the way back I heard a sound in my back, I stopped and looked around and finally saw an emu passing over the path. Don't know who got more scared when he suddenly stepped on the path 3 m away from me, but he ran away very fast, I stood still.
Shortly before the end, another shock moment, something was jumping up right beside me under a bush. A little kangaroo. I didn't see them at all. There were 3 of them. And a little further behind another 3. Hiding so well in the shadow under the bush, that I totally missed them.
I really loved the walk here!

  • Coffin Bay National Park

Calm morning for me. I would like to stay here for one more night, but they are fully booked. So I went to the Coffin Bay National Park. Unfortunately 80% of the park is 4WD roads only. So I can just see a small part of the park. But everyone on the cruise yesterday said, it is so worth it to go, so I did it!
And I must say, I really loved it. Was hoping to see the wild Brumby horses, but I didn't.
Here are some pictures I took beside the road and the emus I saw in Coffin Bay.
