• A Day in Killarney

    6 lipca 2024, Irlandia ⋅ ⛅ 10 °C

Intermittent showers today, Ireland brollie weather. After a beautiful breakfast at Killarney Heights in a gorgeous sunroom we drove to Ross Castle, a beautifully restored tower of life in the 15th century to learn of the Irish life. Fighting and squabbling over lands between the Irish occurred with cattle raids. Cattle were highly valued signifying wealth and prestige used for dowries and bartering and were protected and kept in the Castle walls. Over 20 guards protected the Castle grounds.
Onto a small boat ride over the dark bay to a small island and monastery, a short walk around the island with families of deer.
Muckross House situated on beautiful Lough Leane is a very large home maintained to original household showing off plush curtains, flock and painted wallpaper, ornate furniture and basement with life of 22 servants with kitchens and dining areas. The large extensive gardens with stream garden, arboretum, walled and formal gardens with large well manicured green lawns, all on the edge of the Lough. A quick visit to Torc waterfalls.
A large charity ride of over 3500 cyclists was being held around the Ring of Kerry with lots of traffic and road closures.
