Day 8, Soap making ladies

Started the day at 8am by going down to the hospital with Katie. We were invited to join the staff morning devotion which consists of singing some easy songs and a Bible reading. Katie was then asked to do a short talk on hospital hygiene after which we went on the ward round with Godfrey, the head doctor. Then back to the centre to join the others for the cultural day.
A group of ladies came to show us how to make soap which they sell. They formed the group to make money to help their families. They now get paid to do the house smearing for jiggers prevention and they do table banking. It was really interesting to hear their stories.
We then visited a cultural centre for the afternoon with entertainment by traditional dancers.
Katie, Julia and I, ended the day by going back to the hospital to witness a baby being born. Things were a bit tricky for a while after the baby was born as it did not respond well at first but all was well and mother and baby doing fine.Read more
