We have returned from our couple of days on the coast in Budva and it has been a challenging time after the earthquake and dozens of aftershocks. The earthquake hit Albania (Durres and Tirana where we were a week ago) but we were close enough to wake up at 4am with the bed shaking us from side to side, the building groaning and furniture rattling, on our 3rd floor apartment. This city was flattened by an earthquake in 1979 and you can see how frightened many of the locals are. The aftershocks are still coming and I was woken again by one last night.
We are experts at judging the severity of each tremor on the richter scale by seeing how much our underwear is swaying on the drying rack!
The first one was 6 days ago now and it is a very sad situation with more than 50 casualties and hundreds of buildings destroyed.もっと詳しく

旅行者Oh I understand. Such a pitty. Budapest is not far away from Vienna. Only 2 hours 20 minutes by train. Maybe you want me to join at. Great experience on January 24th. A 60 km walk around our second biggest lake at the boarder to Hungaria. More via email.

Ladder of Kotor (Kotor)

Today we hiked the Ladder of Kotor. We were both excited to get out and hit the trail this morning with blue skies, 2 degree temperature and no wind. We have felt a little cooped up the past week with all the aftershocks from the recent Albanian earthquake.
The Ladder of Kotor trail remains from the legendary route that connected Kotor to the ancient capital of Centinje. The trail climbs up the mountain from Kotor to the Krstac Pass at a altitude of 940 meters with more than 70 switchbacks and the most incredible views of Kotor, Kotor Bay and the surrounding mountain ranges.もっと詳しく

Returned from a walk to find an open (and empty coffin) balanced on the steep steps to our apartment. A short time later we looked out our open window to see a couple of men carrying a tarp wrapped body down the steps above us, They placed the body in the coffin, closed the lid, placed it into a small cart and wheeled it away - life and death in an old stone walled town (apparently it was an elderly local woman).もっと詳しく
