Population 111. San Juan de Ortega to Cardeñuela Rio Pico. After leaving the monastery a gradual uphill climb on a wide dirt path through a pine forest. As the forest ends you see that you are on the long spur of a ridge pointing out into a spacious valley with views over many kilometres or miles. After a Skype call stopping at village of Atapuerca continued through the village and headed uphill on a rough path of jagged stones beneath scattered groups of holm oak.
