I was feeling optimistic after a good nights sleep.

I figure in the next town Aruza I would stop at the pharmacy and buy more ibuprofen and some Spainish knee pain jelly.

I felt the day was a generally nice day once I took my pain medicines.

I met a group of three friends who are much older than me and walking together. They just started the day or two before in Sarria. They were enthusiastic and from NYC & Florida. I stopped to rest with them. They asked me questions about my Camino. We walked for a few minutes then I went ahead.

I would run into them again 6 hours later. One of the women had some bad knee pain. I offered up some ointment which the lady gladly tried.

It was raining and I was a little worried about them. They said they were fine and they were determined to make it. I spoke to them a few days later and they told me they got in around 7:30pm.

I had a lovely dinner at my hostal. Not all albergues and hostels are equal!

Humorous video at the end! 🤣🤣

  • Santiago!!!! We made it! 800km

    19 июня 2024 г., Испания ⋅ ☁️ 14 °C

The weather was cool and great for a brisk walk into Santiago!

Today is the day! Yay! 🙌🙌😇😇

I ran into a few Camino friends along the walk. It was great catching up.

20km later we could hear the sound of bagpipes and walking around the corner into a tall hallway opens up Santiago de Compostela a big beautiful square with the Cathedral in our background.

    It’s surreal!

    Montan just smiles and celebration!🎉

I went to the pilgrim office and submitted my credential to revive my Compostela! 💜

We took pictures with friends and then had our last pilgrim dinner later that night.

A video of my credential attached.

    Gin & Tonic!

  • 40 days and 40 nights, Mass in Cathedral

    20 июня 2024 г., Испания ⋅ ☁️ 13 °C

I was soooo excited to sleep in!!!

I woke up just in time for a shower and breakfast.

I walked back down to the Cathedral for the 12 noon pilgrim mass where they swing the Botafumeiro -

    History of the Botafumeiro

One tradition is that the use of a swinging censer in the Santiago de Compostela Cathedral began in the 11th century. Arriving pilgrims were tired and unwashed. Incense smoke was also believed to have a prophylactic effect during plagues and epidemics. Of course, incense burning is also an important part of the liturgy, an “oration to God” or a form of prayer.

The Botafumeiro is used for liturgical reasons, in the same way as a priest would use a censer at the altar. It operates during the Cathedral's main solemnities during the entrance procession or at the end of the Eucharist. The purpose of this great censer is to symbolise the true attitude of the believer.

It’s a dramatic tradition in this Cathedral and I am soo happy I got to witness it in person!

You can walk around and visit the cathedral and row picture when there is no mass.

When there is mass about 20 minutes before they tell you no cell phone use etc. and non walking around.

I will hangout in Santiago for two days celebrating and enjoying this city.

Off to Finstera ( which was thought to went end of the world) we are in Galicia and this is the seafood capital of the need of the world! Then back to Santiago for night.

Then two nights in Madrid! Where I ate and drank good food and wine!

    I’m
    Coming 🏠 home.
