    Sagres

    February 10 in Portugal ⋅ ⛅ 16 °C

We are settling into a Portuguese routine. For us, that means a slow wake up and breakfast, maybe a bit of work or planning, then a hike or the beach.

Many things are closed this time of year in Portugal, so we have been having fun cooking together from Portugal's HEB- Pingo Doce (regional chain which focuses on local foods). Matt is especially enjoying the baked goods.

Most of our hikes have been beach cliff hikes - yesterday was a bit of a struggle for me- a lot of elevation and a 5.5 hour loop while carrying a 20 lbs pack. I decided to add yoga and stretching back into my weekly routine to hopefully help me gain strength and speed for our hikes.

We visited the fort where Henry the Navigator had his navigational school. Learned a bit more about the origins of navigational training. On the cliff adjacent to his school, cliff paragliders soar with the birds. I am not interested in the least, but Matt might enjoy trying it out. He also loves watching the surfers. Too cold for me!

Tonight we will attend a Saturday vigil service at the Catholic Church that is visible from our window. I wonder how we will be received and what we will understand. I must admit the journey is such a great reminder of the strength and courage that immigrants have. Until next week!
