On the green slopes of Mount Sumbing, we followed a village path past terraced rice fields to a tiny 8th–9th-century Hindu shrine that feels wonderfully off-grid. It’s quieter than the big names, and most travelers say the walk is gentle—about 2 km through paddies with wide-open countryside views. If you’re coming from Borobudur, plan roughly 1–1.5 hours to the trailhead—totally worth it for the serenity and scenery.
