• Pyramids of Giza!!

    October 4, 2025 in Egypt ⋅ ☀️ 33 °C

Today was truly something special! Another day we will remember for the rest of our lives!

We started the morning with a buffet breakfast at our hotel before being picked up by our driver for the day. With one of our beautiful new friends from the tour joining us, and good vibes all around, we were ready to explore.

On the way to the pyramids, we picked up our amazing guide, Anna who was kind, knowledgeable, and made us feel like we were seeing Egypt through the eyes of a local.

Our first glimpse of ancient Egypt came in the form of the Great Sphinx of Giza and wow! Standing proudly with the body of a lion and the head of a human the Sphinx stands guard over the Giza Plateau, carved from a single block of limestone over 4,500 years ago!

Next, we made our way to The Great Pyramid of Giza, our third Wonder of the World! It was built for Pharaoh Khufu and it was massive! Standing in front of it was absolutely mind-blowing. You really can't understand its scale until you’re there.

But the real adventure? Going inside.
We weren’t prepared for how hot, cramped, and sweaty it would be in there! The entrance takes you up a steep, narrow passage with low ceilings (cue the crouch walk). It’s a tight squeeze, humid, and definitely not for the claustrophobic. We lasted about 10 minutes inside before rushing back out for air but it was such a wild experience to say we’ve been inside a pyramid!

We snapped some photos, caught our breath, and found Anna again. Then we just stood and gazed at the pyramids, letting the reality of where we were sink in. The scale, the energy, the history it's indescribable.

Then it was time for one of the most iconic parts of the day a camel ride through the desert with the pyramids behind us! Our camels were decked out in vibrant blankets and beads, and it honestly felt like a dream. The views were epic, the photos even better, and we couldn’t stop smiling the whole time.

After that, we headed back down and grabbed a delicious matcha (yes, even in the desert!) to cool off and recharge before heading into our next adrenaline fix.

Next up, quad biking across the desert sands. This might’ve been our favorite part of the day! We zoomed through golden dunes with the sun overhead and the pyramids fading into the distance behind us. We laughed, raced, and had an absolute blast. Such a fun and freeing way to experience this incredible landscape.

After dusting ourselves off, we headed to a local perfume shop, where we learned about traditional Egyptian oils and even got to design our own signature perfumes. The scents were so rich and unique and it was such a fun, hands-on experience.

Then it was time to eat. We had a grilled lunch, loaded with local flavors, and the freshest mango juice that was basically thick pulpe in a glass! Delicious! On the way to our next stop, we dropped into a local gold and silver store for a quick look around. No purchases here but a lot of beautiful pieces.

Our final cultural stop of the day was Memphis, the ancient capital of Egypt. Today the site is an open air museum, with ruins, statues, and one absolutely massive fallen statue of Ramses that took our breath away. Fun fact, this statue was found floating face down in the Nile River and was thought to be a crocodile so it was left alone until someone finally rescued it.

We had planned to end the day at Saqqara, home to the famous Step Pyramid and the oldest stone pyramid in Egypt! but unfortunately, it was closed by the time we arrived. Not to worry, we’ll be heading there first thing tomorrow.

By the time we got back to the hotel, we were completely wiped dusty, sun-kissed, and so, so happy. Sadly, my stomach hasn’t been loving something here, so I’ll be taking it easy tonight and letting my body rest. But even that couldn’t take away from what was truly one of the most incredible days we’ve had so far.
