Well it was time to leave Roko 😔 actually had a little tear in my eye leaving both the dogs at Roko and the beautiful camp dogs at Alau..it broke my heart as we really miss having a dog 😔 the dogs were barking heaps overnight turns out they were scaring off a crocodile as you could see is tracks right up to camp 😳Read more

Merluna, Weipa and Coen

After we left Moreton Telegraph Station we travelled to Merluna again for a couple of nights respite and drove into Weipa to grab some supplies. We then travelled to Coen where we stayed 3 nights.

Gosh Coen Northern Bend is a good campsite managed to get the very same spot we had on the way up which was awesome. The dogs on the cape are so very cute and well mannered look at his ears 🤣
Saturday was my birthday and Shane made me bacon and eggs for breakfast then chicken parmis for dinner.
My birthday was a bit stressful though as a fire broke out near us...so we packed up ready to leave but it was too late....luckily the fire didn't cross the road.Read more

Back at Hann Crossing

Popped into Coen for some last minute supplies and met the cutest dog 😔 he was gorgeous but looked like humans had let him down so many times 😔
We wanted to end this part of our trip back at where we started at Hann River Crossing. Last time we had site 13 but this time we're on site 9. Its probably better much more private and easier to get into. We've already seen a couple of crocs cruise on by...one looked about 4 meters 🐊😳 so won't be dipping my toes in the water 🤣Read more

No fish biting but we did see the croc again 🐊 made focaccia for lunch it was delicious 😋 and later on it looks like we might have had a little visitor in camp of the snake kind 🐍😳🤣

Stayed back in Cooktown for a few nights. Went to the Top Pub for a parmi and also the RSL. Went for a bit of a fish but nothing to be caught 🤣 stayed at the Orchid Caravan Park sites were tight but it was a really lovely Caravan park and there was shrubbery between each site so it didn't seem cramped.Read more

Ringers Rest, Mareeba

Today we left Cooktown and moved on closer to Cairns. We were going to stay at Rifle Creek Rest Stop but it felt a bit off to be honest. We always trust our gut instincts with these things and I'm so glad we did.
We ended up at Ringers Rest at Mareeba. What a joy and character old Dave is 🤣 will chew your ear off all day about his drover stories and his antics over the years and also how to fix a multitude of health issues like burns and broken bones. It was campfire damper night last night. Brilliant night 🌙

Exploring Atherton what a lovely place, a quick stop off for ice cream. A lovely walk around Lake Tinnaroo. We also had some lunch in Atherton at the platypus station we saw a couple!!! They are so shy...unlike the ducks 😆 unfortunately the bat hospital and the temple were closed 😔 might yet be able to go back to the bat hospital 🤞
On the way back to Mareeba stopped in at Tolga to have a beer...brilliant pub....friendly people....thanks Tolga 😀Read more

Arrived back in Cairns Sunday night then drove back up to Ringers Rest where we left our van. Dave the owner gave us a pumpkin 🎃. Beautiful sunsets, beautiful brumbies and beautiful baby cows 🐄 ❤️
