  • Terrassa to Camping Kanguro

    Jun 13–15, 2024 in Spain ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C

Biked a smooth 70k downhill back to Barcelona, then out on the sea route all the way to Arenys de Mar. Chill ride, sunny day, beautiful views and a really nice campsite up on a cliff overlooking the ocean. Campground had a bar where we did lots of tour route planning and discovered the existence of the amazing Pirinexus bike route 😀Read more

  • Tossa de Mar, Sant Felixiu, Girona!

    Jun 16–18, 2024 in Spain ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

Gorgeous ride up and down along the coast, saw the ancient Roman architecture in Tossa de Mar, ripped through busy Sant Felixiu, and then headed inland on an all gravel 45k Rte to Girona. Hostel in Girona. Lots of pros ripping around town, possibly prepping for the Tour de France. Bonus for us because with lots of cycling pros comes lots of cycling I frastructure!! Did a tourist ride of 50ish km on our non-touring day and saw Els Angeles, and some beautiful medieval towns on the other side of the mtn. Legs were dedRead more

  • Girona to Olot

    Jun 18–20, 2024 in Spain ⋅ ☀️ 25 °C

Girona to Olot on gravel the whoooole way. Was feeling kind of destroyed for Els Angeles the day before but we took er slow and the scenery was gorgeous. A guy who used to live in Brampton made us paella and gave us free beers. Finally in the mtns.Read more

  • Olot to Camprodon

    Jun 20–21, 2024 in Spain ⋅ ☁️ 17 °C

Had a lovely sunny rest day in Olot but it rained overnight and soaked our shit and everything was a muddy mess in the morning. I was also very cranky and we decided to forgo coffee for a real one in town which compounded my cranky issue. BUT once we started climbing out of olot (post caffination) the ride was very cool and we saw a salamander and the descent into the next town was soooo cool. Mountainous and full of wildflowers and cows and mist and not a single soul around. and we splurged on a 1 star hotel to try to clean and dry out out shitRead more

  • Col A'Ares!

    Jun 21–22, 2024 in France ⋅ ⛅ 22 °C

Finally summited the Pyrenees!!! Gorgeous ride up, not too crazy of a climb and the grade was generous and chill compared to some of the other crossings. Ben concocted the most heinous disgusting lunch and enjoyed every bite (I had dates and peanut butter which he said looked good but was entirely too unimaginative compared to his pb-sardines-dates-pepperoni on bread combination that he insisted was actually REALLY good) 🤨

Descended into a cute little town where someone at the tourist office td us about this app and gave us some reccs for where and where NOT to bike in France (shoutout Michel!)

  • Gruelling but gorgeous as usual

    Jun 22–24, 2024 in France ⋅ ☁️ 19 °C

Made a big push inland, off the Pirinexus gravel route we have been following since Girona. And as soon as we left the marked trail Google took us on a ridiculous backroad into the middle of an arid mountainus region and we had to walk the bikes out and re start our already 70km day...we were dying by the time we rolled into the campsite but the views coming down the final mountain were well worth it! 4 castles on the cliffs in the distance! Also biked 4k up to Castelnou, an old medieval town nestled in some mountains. Mountains mountains and more mountains ⛰️Read more

  • Gorges du Garamus

    Jun 24–25, 2024 in France ⋅ ☀️ 24 °C

VERY cool ride today through the Gorge du Garamus and so.e valleys today. Rest day yesterday in Caramany which was really needed after our crazy off piste Google route. We walled thru caramany and it was a ghost town, u til we stumbled on the entire tow. (20ppl) having a music party for solstice in this charming church Square. We watched the concert and had 1€ wine and they gave us free desserts (like milk fat and jam in a cup). Very cute and nice. We saw a Roman aqueduct casually on the side of the road out of town this morning. Overall 15/10 day.Read more

  • Passe a Pais

    Jun 27–29, 2024 in France ⋅ ⛅ 29 °C

Downhill on gravel all day today which was great because we didn't pack up camp until 9am and it hit 35 degrees at noon!🥵 some very cool and cold tunnels to bike thru on the green route today.

Unfortunately we haven't adjusted to European shop hours yet - everything is open 9-12 and closed until maybe 3 but maybe 4 or possibly 6pm depending on how the shop owner feels on a given day. Makes getting food for hungry bike tourers a bit difficult since we don't want to carry our dinner all day.

Arrived at camping around 2pm, which is when check in starts as per the website. registration, however, is closed until 3. Forced to enjoy a patio beer while we wait to get checked in 🤪🇫🇷🍻

  • Ravioli Rippers

    Jun 30–Jul 1, 2024 in France ⋅ ☁️ 25 °C

Col de Baraques de Bral and Gorges la Vis were amazing and had us not caring that every grocery store was closed this afternoon (a cause de Sunday in France). We had canned ravioli for dinner yesterday and now ravioli for dinner today so we are now 50% ravioli (plus 100% dehydration). Lots of climbing but we felt super strong (on account of the ravioli). Shoutout to Ben who lugged the entire 750ml can up 2 mountains today 💪Read more

  • Ben Heath in Mormoiron!

    July 2, 2024 in France ⋅ 🌬 21 °C

Back dating updates so we remember the trip.

Stopped for a week to rest and plan the Alps. Ben Heath was a great and crazy host who wined and dined us and dragged our asses up Mt Ventoux. Played many a card game and got to experience a "village fête", which are these big parties that the town pays for once a summer. We saw a burlesque style show in a village of 1000 people that had lights and choreography and very risqué dancers which was kind of funny. A great recharge!Read more

  • Gorges de la Nesque

    July 7, 2024 in France ⋅ 🌙 19 °C

Amazing ride out of Mormoiron through Gorges de la Nesque. The coolest Gorge yet! Stopped in a little town afterwards and ate one whole pizza each, and then almost puked it up climbing the following mountain. Got our first glimpse of the Alps!Read more

  • Tour Chasing

    July 8, 2024 in France ⋅ 🌙 17 °C

Starting to ride through towns that are prepped for the Tour de France! Very cool to see and bike on roads that the most famous riders in the world are racing on. We go slightly slower but only slightly. Sun sun sun today. Worked on our tans and smelled the lavender!Read more

  • Detour for a nice lake

    Jul 9–11, 2024 in France ⋅ ☁️ 19 °C

Were planning for 75k but stopped short at 35 because we passed a gorgeous shining blue lake and I demanded ice cream.

Decided to take a rest day the day after, and we met a German and an Italian at the campsite (also biking) who shared some beers with us and swapped travel stories. The Italian was a pizza maker by trade and the German was an engineer so the country stereotypes seem to be truer than we thought lol 😆Read more

  • Shortie to Guillestre

    Jul 11–13, 2024 in France ⋅ 🌙 19 °C

Finished our original ride to Guillestre, the town just before the big Col d'Izoard. Had to stay an extra day because there were crazy thundershowers. Chilled in the tent, grabbed some espresso in the town, and watched a movie on the damned laptop since we have been hauling it around with us. Pretty good rest day all in all.Read more

  • Col d'Izoard

    Jul 13–14, 2024 in France ⋅ 🌙 11 °C

Biked up another major mountain. People were very supportive and usually gave us a thumbs up or a "bon courage" as they whizzed past on 10,000 € bikes 😬 one guy said "respect. With all that shit on there." Haha. We felt really strong all the way up and had some good snacks at the top. It was the second climb into the campsite that really got us, AND I got knocked by a car in a roundabout which dampened our spirits. Car did not stop to check on me which was rude so revenge fantasies fuelled us into camp.Read more

  • Col du Galibier

    July 14, 2024 in France ⋅ 🌙 21 °C

A famous tour de france climb with the paint still fresh on the road from the TDF stage last week. I was imagining it said "Allez Erin and Ben" because I was dying a bit after Izoard the day before. But again people were very encouraging and often shake their heads or give us a huge grin which is hugely motivating and nice 😀 the views actually made me cry a bit on our way down because the mountains were so beautiful. And we biked all the way up with just our legs!!! Crazy.

My brakes are pretty much worn down to the metal after this descent, so new brake pads are in store for the 720.

  • Col d'Iseran

    July 17, 2024 in France ⋅ 🌙 19 °C

Rivaled Galibier in terms of beauty!!! Biked through a valley of wildflowers and waterfalls cascadinding off the mountains on either side, and then biked Up up UP. There were more mountaintop meadows and cows with bells on their necks halfway up. By the time we got to the top (the highest altitude we've been) Ben had a headache and I felt nauseous lol. Quick tuna sandwiches and then started descending and felt much better. Passed AG2R LA Mondiale TDF team training (I guess they weren't competing) which was cool. Had some good craft beers at the bottom, and then biked thru some crazy tunnels that went through the sides of mountains. Cool but a little scary. For me, Iseran was maybe my #1 tour Day so far! Ben still thinks Galibier takes the cake. But more days to come! 😁Read more

  • In the Alps ⛰️

    Jul 18–19, 2024 in France ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C

Been bad at updating the app, but these crazy mountains have been zapping our legs and we are fried at the end of the day!!

The biking has been tough but feeling strong now after so much climbing. The views of the French Alps seem to be cooler and cooler every day. Definitely some of the most stunning scenery from our whole trip this year. We met a German named Manu today at a boulangerie early on in the ride, and he had the same heavy bike set up as us so we rode together. Was so nice to chat and made the climbing so much easier! Stunning lake views today.Read more
