  • Dinosaur Provincial Park

    July 3, 2022 in Canada ⋅ ☁️ 21 °C

Trying to escape the pouring rain in Waterton, we spontaneously decided to visit the Dinosaur Provincial Park. Hot and humid, the badlands presented themselves as alien and fascinating as always. Perfect breeding ground for mosquitoes, too.Read more

  • Poboktan Trail

    July 6, 2022 in Canada ⋅ ⛅ 9 °C

First attempting to do the 5-day hike Brazeau loop from the Niguel pass, we had to switch plans the first night after hearing of uncrossable river sections at the Brazeau lake. With finishing the Poboktan trail in mind, we crossed lush forests and meadows, small river streams and snow patches. Before attempting the Jonas pass, had a small swim in cold melting water lake. The last part was long and exhausting, but excellent weather and great views made the 3 day trip worthwhile! Our first attempt to hitchhike back succeeded quickly, preventing us to walk another 50 km to the car.Read more

  • Geraldine Lake

    July 9, 2022 in Canada ⋅ ☁️ 12 °C

We spontaneously decided to go to the Geraldine lakes. Due to a fallen tree, we had to hitchhike a ride halfway up and continue on forest roads to the start of the trail. After a steep descent in the forests, there were many flooded path section to conquer due to high water levels at the first lake. After a challenging rock section, we were rewarded with a beautiful view to the Geraldine waterfall.Read more

  • Skyline Trail

    July 12, 2022 in Canada ⋅ ☀️ 18 °C

Second backcountry trip - the popular Skyline Trail. Due to challenging conditions, only 2 groups attempted the most difficult part at the same time as us - the Notch. It turned out to be steep and slippery in snow and rocky grounds, making it especially exhausting. After a windy descent over the mountain ridge, we were rewarded with excellent views in all directions. Not to forget diverse wildlife encounters!Read more

    July 15, 2022 in Canada ⋅ ☀️ 18 °C

Extended hike starting at our campsite: via Laughing Falls to the Twin Falls on easy forest trails. We took a longer break to swim in Celeste lake, before heading up the rocky and snowy Iceline Trail to enjoy the incredible view on mountain glaciers and the valley.Read more

  • Sentinel Pass

    July 17, 2022 in Canada ⋅ ⛅ 19 °C

Very beautiful hike starting at the popular Lake Moraine over the Sentinel Pass to the famous Lake Louise. Starting with a bunch of people through well maintained forest trails, we left them quickly behind after a steep climb through snow patches and an even steeper descent through loose rock at the Sentinel Pass. After rewarding ourselves with an extensive lunch at Lake Anette, we decided to do some extra 500 m elevation and hike to Lake Louise through the Saddleback Pass.Read more

  • Herbert Lake

    July 18, 2022 in Canada ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

Refreshing swim at Herbert Lake on our rest day! In the background we could see the mountain peaks we just passed the day before. Lots of blue dragon flies seem to like the warm weather, too.
