Jurbarkas Cemetery

One of the best examples of a Jewish cemetery in Lithuania, set just outside Jurbarkas town on a hill looking out over the Nemunas river.

In 2007, the cemetery was restored by several descendants of Jurbarkas residents & all gravestones documented. https://web.archive.org/web/20160504155730/http… There are some Polaravitzs in this list, which we return the following day to find - see later post.

Also the site of a Jewish massacre during Nazi occupation, the fourth photo shows a memorial to this event which also commemorates a Lithuanian architect (Vincas Grybas) who tried to intervene to prevent Jewish persecution.Read more
