    Greenock Cut

    August 19, 2021 in Scotland ⋅ ⛅ 15 °C

Feeling rather delicate after the silent disco, we headed out for a long walk in Greenock. Docked in the clyde, it was a shame we sailed in so early, missing much of the fjord-like scenery. However the Greenock Cut walk promised beautiful views in the 11km circular route out passed Loch Thom and back along the aqueduct ('cut') that took water from there into Greenock itself. It was a 40 minute uphill trek to the starting point from the ship...and it was steep! But once we got started, beautiful purple heather carpeted the route as it had in Anglesey and we were soon a world away from the city. Half way around the gravel-lined route was a little cafe and (closed) visitor centre. Picking up the cut here, we followed it back giving the most spectacular views over the Clyde. The route took about 4 hours from the ship but was well worth it. Back on board, the sun graced us on the sailaway out of the Clyde, and we saw dolphins and seals as we departed too.Read more
