• Dinosaur Valley State Park - Day1 PM

    26 maart 2023, Verenigde Staten ⋅ ☀️ 75 °F

Hammond's BBQ was definitely worth stopping for lunch. The portions were so large that most of us opted for the child's plate which was plenty enough. With our bellies filled we continued on the short drive to Dinosaur Valley State Park. Just a 15min queue of cars by the head office and then we found a parking spot near the souvenir store. It was a gorgeous, sunny day 72 degrees, and practically no wind. Lots of other people (with kids) had the same idea as we did but the place wasn't overcrowded.

The trail first took us to the Paluxy River bed where we observed the humongous Dinosaur footprints in the bedrock. Quite impressive. Once our curiosity was satisfied, everyone posed for a group picture. The hiking trail then led us across the river and up a slope to a lookout about 300 feet above the river. We rested about every 15 minutes and enjoyed the views and beauty of nature accompanied by good discussions and jokes. Realizing the group was moving a bit slower than anticipated, I changed to plan B and we completed an easy 3-mile loop instead of the 6-mile.

The planning meeting started at 4:30 at the Best Western where we lodged for the night. Dinner was served around 7 PM at Big Cup Eatery in Glen Rose. Later, back at the hotel, we continued our planning meeting and lively discussions ensued until the eyes told me it was time for bed. My roommate was Robert. I didn't hear a beep from him until it was time to get up, and he swore that I didn't snore!
