  • Hotham Valley Railway

    January 3, 2024 in Australia ⋅ 🌬 25 °C

We took a trip on the Hotham Railway today. Just a diesel engine but fun having open carriages and moving through the forests. It's been a while since we've seen this type of scenery!!!

We had time to go for a little forest walk and the back on the train for the 40min return trip! And learnt a little bit about the area and the logging industry (most of which was destroyed in multiple bush fires over the years).

The girls are pretty tired after all the late nights over Xmas so this was a nice easy morning activity that didn't require too much movement!

  • Boddington

    January 5, 2024 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 24 °C

A few nights in Boddington to meet up with an old Navy friend of Chris' he hasn't seen for 25 years!

What an awesome few days with Bear (Justin), Gillian, Jordi and Marley!

We stayed a couple of nights at the 48hr free camp right by the river and the rec area complete with an awesome skate park, basketball courts, pump track and adventure play ground.

We enjoyed a BBQ at the van the first night with a rowdy crowd and funny to bump into Chris Sutton again (we've met up with her 4 times now on our trip! She's an incredible old age hippy tripping around in her little van with Oakey the dog). A fun night had by all and the girls enjoyed a late night scoot in the park at night (too many bears for the boys!).

Day 2 was off into the bush with all the toys loaded up. Bear took the crew out with buggy, 4 wheelers and motorbikes for a spin and river swim.

I enjoyed a day to myself with Sasha and we sat by the river for the afternoon which was just lovely.

Then off to the local Bowls Club for dinner.... the town is so similar to Capella with a tight knit community and of course Bear knows everyone!

Our final day we moved the bus to the road outside the house and the girls had a sleepover watching movies till midnight and having the time of their lives. It was a great day hanging out and having a big feed that night 💗

  • Busselton Jetty

    January 9, 2024 in Australia ⋅ 🌬 27 °C

A great afternoon travelling on the train down the Jetty to the underwater observatory! The Jetty is the 2nd largest wooden construction in the world at 1.8km narrowly beaten by the wooden Jetty at Southend in the UK!

What an incredible concrete tank bolted to the ocean floor that took us 8m under the water to see all the fish and corals on the Jetty structure!

Was really clever, very informative and a lovely afternoon! 😍

Our second stay in Perth was near the airport at the Discovery Park whilst Chris went back to work.

I also did another interview at the ABC in Perth and enjoyed my Xmas present afternoon at the spa at Hidden Valley which was a lovely treat!

AND of course the highlight was Granny arriving!!!

    What an incredible idea 💡

A Museum and gaming room full of old school, nostalgic game consoles that the kids could play with!

It was such an awesome afternoon playing old Super Mario and Sonic games as well as some more modern games.

I loved hearing the girls laughing and playing together (rather than squabbling!) And I beat Tom in one of the old school Mario Kart races 🏁😆

  • Big Valley Sheep Farm

    January 28, 2024 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 23 °C

We stayed at Big Valley Farm just outside Margaret River for a few days and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

It is a working sheep farm with chickens and Guinea pigs roaming free, a special area for the kids to handle them and Sheri feeding every afternoon!

We had a great site by the grassy area so the kids played footie, set up a slack line and enjoyed the 'play tree' that they could climb.

The owners were super friendly and always around for a chat and it was just a lovely vibe 💓

  • Jewel Cave

    January 31, 2024 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 24 °C

After a slow start, a no show with the hire car company and a family intervention to resolve a few arguments... Mum, Chris and I headed to Jewel Cave with the girls (we left Tom behind happily playing lego because we didn't have enough seats in the car).

This was the most incredible cave system and completely different to Ngilgi Cave yesterday.

With huge caverns and a full guided tour it was really educational and ourv your guide was brilliant!

A couple of nights in Walpole with our first rain in months!!! Bit on the chilly side after the 40 degree days! 🌧🥶

Granny enjoyed Friday night movie night with Lottie, and the kids have been enjoying one night each sleeping in the spare bed in the cabin.

Then on Saturday we did a quick drive through Walpole to visit the Giant Tingle Tree.

It was absolutely incredible! The trees are literally Giant (up to 20m circumference at the base of the trunk!) and this particular one was hollowed out during a bush fire 🔥
