Designed by architect Frank Lloyd Wright in 1935 for the Edgar J. Kaufman family (owners of Pittsburgh’s largest department store) as a vacation home.

Reservations to tour the inside of the home were all sold out today; so we were only able to tour the grounds.

The main house was built in 1936-1938, followed by construction of the guest home in 1939. The main house is 9,300 sq. ft. (of which 4,400 sq. ft. is the outdoor terraces); and the guest house is 4,990 sq. ft. (of which 1,950 sq. ft. is the outdoor terrace).
