• Cruising the Danube river

    After departing Vienna, the following day we went through the Wachau valley. Full of twists & turns, modern towns, castles, churches and town after town of colourful houses and some dramatic vistas. Amber’s 5 x great grandfather (paternal side) left Germany in the late 1700s when Catherine the Great of Russia opened the Ukraine to settlers & floated down the Danube on a raft to settle outside of Odessa where the family stayed until they (Amber’s great grandparents & grandfather) immigrated to Canada in the 30s. It’s been a special day looking at castles and abbeys that would have been here when Georg Boepple (born 1765) went by so long ago changing the history of the family.Læs mere
