    HMAS Whyalla

    November 22, 2022 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 17 °C

Headed to the Whyalla foreshore for a walk along the unique jetty with a circular walkway halfway along. Saw several dolphins in the marina but they wouldn't play for our cameras!
Walked up Hummock Hill lookout for 360 degree views of Whyalla beachfront and steelworks.
Then headed to the HMAS Whyalla for a tour through the ship. What a great tour. Very informative. Afterwards we went through the Maritime museum and model railway exhibition onsite. The museum runs a 10 minute movie on how the ship was moved from the water to its current position, was not an easy task. Nor did it run smoothly, took 5 days to shift from the sea just a few hundred metres!
Walked through the Ada Ryan gardens, nice but small.
Back to the foreshore area where we walked the jetty again as it was such a lovely sunny afternoon.

Aus v France oi, oi, oi, non, non, non

    November 23, 2022 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 18 °C

The world cup- Australia's first game against France. 5:30am kickoff. How excited were we 15 minutes in, leading 1-0. Then 😕 all down hill from there 1-4 end result.
Anyway headed to the jetty as the weather was so calm and got out the drone up over the new Jetty, great footage.
Then we did the Steelworks tour, very informative. Just over 90 minutes on a minnie bus taking us around Whyalla and through the Steelworks plant, giving us a good look at the plant and a bit of the old shipworks site.
Afterwards we had a look at Mount Laura Homestead museum. A bit disappointed with this as just too much stuff crammed into small spaces or areas not accessible.
    The gardens were nice.
After lunch headed out to point Bonython and Point Lowly Lighthouse. This is where the cuttlefish come into to mate each winter.
The beach here was really lovely.
Back to Whyalla for another walk from the caravan park to the jetty and back again. Lovely weather today.

    And we are home😕

    November 25, 2022 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 31 °C

Yesterday left Whyalla early and headed to Port Pirie.
Stopped in at Port Germein to walk the longest jetty in South Australia at 1530m long.
A beautiful morning and a lovely walk out and back along the jetty.
Then continued into Port Pirie and set up for an overnight stay in the beach caravan park.
Spent the afternoon and evening with Rob's Dad Jimmy and his wife Maggie.
Was great catching up with them. This morning went for a run up to the museum and across the bridge to nowhere! Then caught up with Jimmy and Maggie for a cuppa before packing up and heading back to drop off the caravan at Laura and Dylan's and home by 4:30pm.
We had a fantastic trip and can't wait for the next adventure.

    6093 km trip in total.
