The last days in Dominican Republic we spent in the south of the island, in Bayahibe. Somehow we found us in a little town with lots of Italian flavour, including aperitivo on the rooftop of our hotel. We visited Isla Saona, a real Caribbean paradise in the Caribbean Sea, with starfishes in clear water, beautiful palm trees and white sand - and a party boat that brought us there (also parts of pirates of the Caribbean were shot here). Aren't photos of 'lost places', dead and empty once inhabited villages, clinics, factories, .... A real popular thing right now?

Already in our last year's travel to Indonesia we saw a lot of 'ruins' where pre-corona thousands of tourists spend their time. It's the same here. In the heart of Dominican tourism, in the heart of the 'Cotubanamá National Parc' there are hundreds of fiberglass lounge chairs, electronical devices, ....

Today is time to say good bye to the Dominican republic! Hopefully the mayan ruins in Mexico will more impressive then the lost places!Leia mais

After leaving the Dominican republic our next stop was Cancun. After just one night and probably the worst Mexican food we ever had, to the "charming, laid-back, Mexico's best kept secret" island of Holbox.

This island is praised for his vibes, turquoise waters, swimming with whale sharks and having a beach with bioluminescence.

Compared to the overcrowded beaches of Cancun or playa del Carmen it really seems to be quiet over here. But nothing compared to the quiet towns and beaches we visited before.Leia mais

Arriving in the cute town of 'Valladolid'. Somehow weird to say "Hey what a lovely colonial architecture!" If you know that to build these houses Mayan temples and houses got destroyed. And you're in this town just to go and visit the ruins of other mayan temples. Seems paradox.Leia mais

Another former centre of Mayas in Yucatan which is still in the process of reconstruction and excavation.

As 'Ek Balm' isn't crowded by tourists yet it's still possible to climb on top of the 31m high pyramid. At the horizon you can see the pyramids of the cities 'Coba' and 'Chichen itza'.Leia mais
