    Paris day 1

    Got taxi early to Barcelona sant station. We have 5 hours to Lyon to then change trains to Paris arriving about 4pm.

    Best photos were away from Eiffel Tower...we walked over a bridge to a huge building over looking it. There were loads of people and we waited 2 hours for the lights to turn on... soaking up atmosphere from buskers playing music.

    Got back late to apartment...all set to meet ex employee Fanny in the morning 🙂    Leia mais

    Paris day 2

    Had a lovely day with Fanny as our tour guide...we went for breakfast and then set off walking around heaps. We got nice weather mostly...but leaving Montmartre the rain started. Managed not to get soaked like in Venice.

    We left Fanny to go to her grandmothers 90th a few hours away...and we went to the Louvre. We booked skip line tickets with an entry time...this proved awesome value compared to sistine chapel in Rome. To find it from street we entered gate 99 and proceeded down in to a mall underground...missed the queues out in the open by the priamid ... assume that was for tickets on the day.

    Wow...so large...they had free lockers which was handy as saved carrying my day pack and it was very hot.

    Probably should have spent the money on headphones tour using Nintendo for $6 euro as meant could skip...or search the display number... rather than listening to all info taking days!

    Had snack at McDonald's to try their chicken nuggets...then home to heat up a preheat chicken tikka...the nuggets were more crispy and tasted less processed.

    Vanessa has not been well...she has a coughing bug...poor thing is so tired and her chest sore from hacking so much...hope I don't catch it!    Leia mais

    Amsterdam day 1

    Got to our 3rd floor apartment with narrow staircase...as no lift!

    Walked around lots and got lots of classic Amsterdam photos...walked through red light district after a nice Chinese meal...only cost 58 euro for 2 mains and 1 coke... that's 104 nz!!!

    V led me down a side street that had women standing in the windows in bikinis hoping to lure people in...I felt to embarrassed taking a photo 😭    Leia mais

    Chill day...walk in a park...and lots of shopping at tk max..I spent more than v again so she's feeling ripped off 🙂

    Up early to get to central station for train that requires check in 1.5 hours before departure of 8.45

    Were waiting at bus stop and realised it was a Sunday and no bus for ages so had to walk to another stop that had earlier times...I waved down a bus at the lights and driver kindly let us on...so panic averted 🙂

    Made it to London about 1 hour late due to a security breach...we all had to get off train and proceed through customs again to get back on train...gave them time to check the train... and luckily all was fine.

    Arrived at station trying to buy tickets at a machine when found out that we just use our credit card at the turnstile!

    Kings Cross to Vauxhall, then Wandsworth station...and directly across road was our accommodation at the Alma...I walked 100 metres around the corner to Andy's home... 3 levels but very nice. He has an old Mercedes 15 years old called Darren!    Leia mais

    Walked with bags to Andy's home to start road trip down to his parents Mike and Tommy dart.

    Accommodation is so cool...built in 1400 really low doors and ceilings... called Weeke Barton with owner Adam.

    Went to Mike and Tommy's and had a bbq for dinner. Andy did the bbq and I did the potatos.

    After lunch we had more photo opportunities.

    We had fish and chips down at a pier and went and re-created photos at the wild goose pub where my great grandfather use to live and work.

    After breakfast we went and collected the darts to do a rod trip...went all over .and had a coffee stop in a pub.

    The Dartmoor Moore's had some roaming animals and stone bridges.

    Left Devon...sad to say goodbye to Mike...will see Tommy again when she comes up for Tommy's 1st birthday.

    Had airport return hop on off bus ticket so made the most of it.
    Lots of old buildings and passage ways between buildings...at times felt like Venice. The castle is a great back drop for photos.
    To get tickets in means booking in advance...we weren't interested as with 1 day we just walked the streets.
    So many shops around the castle.
    We had dinner in a nice Italian restaurant on grass street... famous for heaps of pubs.    Leia mais

    Edinburgh to London day 1

    Left Edinburgh apartment and walked 15 minutes to catch airport bus...got there with lots of time to spare.

    Got express train from Stansted to Liverpool station and then went to Tower bridge and tower of London.

    Nice final catch up with Andy and Tommy X 2...met friends of Andy that were very nice....gave young Tommy his 1 year old birthday present...a size 2 years all black jersey and a cool book that hopefully he will enjoy.

    Plans of going to a celebrity soccer match fell through...but thankfully that means no stress with not having to worry about getting back to hotel for a booked taxi at 4.50am to Dubai...where it will be 40 degrees!

    Back in time visit to Kensington high St where I lived with great aunt Mary and worked at David clulows opticians.

    Mary was 3rd floor above gap clothes shop...but I think it is the Rituals shop now. Stayed also 1 foor down with nice gay man called James...did so when Jason Lind needed a place to stay.

    After that it was a long bus ride to an outlet store by Wembley park station... stadium.

    Not worth the time but I got 2 items vs 1 from v...so I won 😎    Leia mais

    Had early start 4.50am uber to Heathrow....only 7 hours flight to Dubai.

    Arrived with google link error to wrong location...so cost us a taxi $25 NZ.

    So hot 38 deg at 10pm!

    Woke early and went for a swim in pool.

    After breakfast we went to the mall of the Emirates....only took 1 hour so back to hotel by shuttle....to sort washing machine that was stopped by me on leaving when I took the card out by the door...v wasn't impressed since she told me not to....but habits are hard to break 🙂

    Spent hours in next mall...the Dubai mall... awesome for what's inside and out....see the photos 😄    Leia mais

    We went to Jamie Oliver's restaurant.
    We sat outside with ok temp of about 34...more water fountain photos.

    V said my fault...but I had a nice lasagna with small amount of salt on top...then lots of pepper from the other grinder to only find I had flooded my meal with large crunchy rock salt...so ruined my meal...I still ate it...and I like salt...in dark I expect the restaurant to sort this so explained my disappointment at end saying above the nice lady said we'll just take it off the bill.... awesome 👍....made meal taste better 🙂

    The Dubai mall is a must for the experience...the shopping is a bit expensive unless on sale. V got a top with a ink tag on it the staff couldn't remove...so 15 minutes later after hacking at it with a knife and a lighter to soften the plastic it was removed successfully...I was more concerned about the lady getting cut or burnt.

    The dinosaur was very cool how it was found with all bones intact. The aquarium was pretty cool but why anyone would pay $100 NZ when the mall shows a taster for free.

    Got taxi home...the government run ones...they are slightly cheaper than the uber types in Dubai.    Leia mais

    Ran down to the beach as sand was a little hot...the sea was so warm it was kinda too warm.

    Walked 5 min to a bus stop all hot and sweaty...to enter an enclosed air-conditioned pod...so nice!

    Went to pay on bus with credit card but couldn't...luckily driver was kind and let us stay on.

    Monorail was just a thing to do. The middle stop at mall was just a food stop as the end stop was a posh hotel.

    Inside hotel was an aquarium that had great views rather than paying to see.

    Got conned to have a timeshare tour which was actually interesting and killed 3.5 hours of the day... perfect as then got dropped off where we wanted to go for dinner down at the marina area...saved walking around more shops 😀

    Hard to comprehend that 20 years ago it was just desert...they build buildings so fast. The new tallest hotel in Dubai has taken 3.5 years and has 84 Floors....the models were impressive and more development happening with a bigger palms 2 on right of map.

    The salesman Ali was really nice and we just said no as they pressured us to decide while there.... they are good at their jobs...I nearly fell asleep during the presentation while he was talking directly to me... embarrassing but I just said I've heard this all before...just give me the price.

    Not as many boats in marina but pretty to walk around...just annoying sales approach from all the restaurants.

    Packing tonight for early start to airport tomorrow... getting taxi at 6.20am.    Leia mais

    Photo from taxi on way to airport of the Dubai frame...the idea being see how much Dubai grows over the years looking through it.
    Auckland to Wellington comes next.
    So looking forward to seeing the kids and pets 🙂.

    Managed to get on an earlier flight and squeezed in e208 with Piper and Will with all our luggage.
