Kyle Owens
As a kid I was inspired by my grandparents travelling the world. My eyes lit up looking at the world map they had displayed on their wall, full of flags marking the places they’ve been to. I want to follow in their footsteps and travel with Emma. Read more🇨🇦Whitby

  • Orient Beach & Baie Rouge

    February 26, 2024 in Saint Martin ⋅ ⛅ 26 °C

We spent the day at 2 different beaches.

Enjoyed reading a book at Orient Beach and ate a lobster/crab sandwich for lunch. We toasted to our great trip and Emma completed her right of passage walking through the naked section; an Owens family tradition.

Then we finished the day at Rouge beach where we had fun playing in the waves. Jordan found a red heart shaped rock washed up on the shore. The perfect souvenir to remember this trip and our final full day enjoyed at Rouge Beach. Overall a great day!

  • Fat Tony’s & Shark Attack

    February 26, 2024 in Sint Maarten ⋅ ☀️ 26 °C

Emma and I woke up this morning and started our daily walk to Maho. Funny enough, halfway there we ran into my Mom! So the three of us enjoyed the rest of our walk together. We ended up in Maho where we enjoyed some delicious smoothies. On the way back Emma got attacked by a shark and fought it off. She has the battle scar to prove it. 😉 We celebrated her victory with a breakfast burrito from Fat Tony’s and enjoyed a lovely sit down with Jordan.Read more

  • We Arrived! Part 2: Lost Sandal

    February 22, 2024 in Sint Maarten ⋅ 🌬 26 °C

While watching the sunset, we looked back and noticed Jordan was missing. Turns out he went down the stairs to Cupecoy beach and lost his sandal in the ocean after the tide pulled it in. We cheered him on from the sidelines and he successfully retrieved his sandal floating away. It was quite the spectacle.

Exciting start to the trip so far!

  • We arrived! Part 1: Itchy Cotton

    February 22, 2024 in Sint Maarten ⋅ 🌬 26 °C

We have arrived! The trip has just begun but so much as already happened… After grabbing groceries we headed over to our special spot beside Cupecoy beach to catch the last bit of the sunset. This is where things took a turn.

I tried to show off to Emma and picked her a piece of cotton from a cotton plant. Turns out Emma might be allergic. She started getting hives and became very itchy. She’s all good now but she’s going to avoid cotton now.

1st stop this morning was in Kilkenny. We checked out the castle grounds and learned about Irish history and culture. A lot of Irish limericks have come out of Kilkenny. Here is one that we wrote for the tour group:

“On the "Britain and Irish Delight" bus,
Canadians, Yanks, and Aussies, no fuss,
    With Gino, our guide,
    We laughed and we cried,
As we toured, making memories with a plus!”

  • Irish Night Cabaret in Dublin

    September 6, 2023 in Ireland ⋅ ⛅ 22 °C

What a night in Dublin. We attended a cabaret where Irish traditions were in full display. It was a lot of fun! We were greeted with Irish Whiskey and enjoyed Irish River Dancing, Irish Humour and Singing. I had the beef and Guinness stew for dinner and it was delicious! I know my Irish relatives would be kicking themselves if I had ordered something else while in Dublin. Also had my first Irish Coffee while chuckling away from some corny Irish Jokes.

    Here’s a couple for you:

“There was an 88 year old Irish man that had a baby with a young woman. The man was concerned he was a little old to be having a baby but his friend assured him that he’ll be the perfect father at 88. The man was confused and asked why. The friend responded “You’ll be the perfect father because at 88 you’re up 10 times in the night anyways”

“There was an Irish electrician named Patty that had a close relationship with the Texas senator. The senator asked for Patty’s help because he needed the electric chair fixed for an execution the next day. Patty agreed to help but to the senator’s shock the chair was disassembled when the senator checked up on Patty. He asked Patty “what are you doing?!” Patty responded, “it’s good you brought me in, this thing was a death trap”

“An Irish man gave his doctor a cheque last time he paid him a visit. On his follow up appointment, the doctor complained to the man that his cheque didn’t go through and had come back. The man responded “yes, and so did my arthritis doc”

  • Day in Dublin

    September 6, 2023 in Ireland ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

Top o the morning to ya! What a day to discover in Dublin. We saw Trinity college, enjoyed a coffee at the Beanhive (most amazing coffee art), walked through St. Stephen’s Green Park, checked out a museum, did some shopping and walked past some famous landmarks like Temple Bar. Emma and I felt a sense a belonging given our Irish roots and enjoyed exploring the streets of Dublin!

Also for those who are wondering why I am touching the lady’s boob, that is a statue of Molly Malone and it is believed that touching her breast brings good luck!

  • Goodbye Glasgow

    September 5, 2023 in Scotland ⋅ ☀️ 12 °C

Our stay in Glasgow has come to an end. Before leaving we enjoyed a fantastic takeaway from Obsessions of India for dinner. No cutlery was included so we had to improvise when we got back to the room 😂. Due to high demand, I tried a blood sausage this morning. Not bad but not good in my opinion 😅

We are now on the road and are heading to the coast to take a ferry to Belfast! Northern Ireland here we come

  • Exploring Edinburgh

    September 4, 2023 in Scotland ⋅ ☀️ 21 °C

After Edinburgh Castle we explored downtown Edinburgh. What a beautiful city with so many hidden gems. I found myself having the urge to rewatch the Harry Potter movies… it’s probably because it’s here in Edinburgh where J.K. Rowling found her inspiration for the setting and characters in Harry Potter.

While exploring we fulfilled our tradition and purchased our Christmas tree ornament for Scotland. We also came across the Greyfriars Bobby statue. I’ll leave a summary of this dog’s story below and why he was give his own special memorial. Full disclosure it’s a touching story, what a good boy. Cino & Nella better take notes.

“In 1850 a gardener called John Gray arrived in Edinburgh. Unable to find work as a gardener he avoided the workhouse by joining the Edinburgh Police Force as a night watchman.
To keep him company through the long winter nights John took on a partner, a diminutive Skye Terrier, his ‘watchdog’ called Bobby. Together John and Bobby became a familiar sight trudging through the old cobbled streets of Edinburgh. Through thick and thin, winter and summer, they were faithful friends. The years on the streets appear to have taken their toll on John, as he was treated by the Police Surgeon for tuberculosis. John eventually died and was buried in Greyfriars Kirkyard. Bobby soon touched the hearts of the local residents when he refused to leave his master’s grave, even in the worst weather conditions. For 14 years the dead man’s faithful dog kept constant watch and guard over the grave until his own death in 1872. A statue and memorial was built to remember Scotland’s most faithful dog.”
