As a kid I was inspired by my grandparents travelling the world. My eyes lit up looking at the world map they had displayed on their wall, full of flags marking the places they’ve been to. I want to follow in their footsteps and travel with Emma. Read more🇨🇦Whitby
  • Exploring Edinburgh

    September 4, 2023 in Scotland ⋅ ☀️ 21 °C

After Edinburgh Castle we explored downtown Edinburgh. What a beautiful city with so many hidden gems. I found myself having the urge to rewatch the Harry Potter movies… it’s probably because it’s here in Edinburgh where J.K. Rowling found her inspiration for the setting and characters in Harry Potter.

While exploring we fulfilled our tradition and purchased our Christmas tree ornament for Scotland. We also came across the Greyfriars Bobby statue. I’ll leave a summary of this dog’s story below and why he was give his own special memorial. Full disclosure it’s a touching story, what a good boy. Cino & Nella better take notes.

“In 1850 a gardener called John Gray arrived in Edinburgh. Unable to find work as a gardener he avoided the workhouse by joining the Edinburgh Police Force as a night watchman.
To keep him company through the long winter nights John took on a partner, a diminutive Skye Terrier, his ‘watchdog’ called Bobby. Together John and Bobby became a familiar sight trudging through the old cobbled streets of Edinburgh. Through thick and thin, winter and summer, they were faithful friends. The years on the streets appear to have taken their toll on John, as he was treated by the Police Surgeon for tuberculosis. John eventually died and was buried in Greyfriars Kirkyard. Bobby soon touched the hearts of the local residents when he refused to leave his master’s grave, even in the worst weather conditions. For 14 years the dead man’s faithful dog kept constant watch and guard over the grave until his own death in 1872. A statue and memorial was built to remember Scotland’s most faithful dog.”

  • Edinburgh Castle

    September 4, 2023 in Scotland ⋅ ☀️ 18 °C

Perhaps my favourite site on the trip so far, Edinburgh Castle! You can see the fortress on top of the mountain from miles away. I can’t even imagine participating in the battles that happened here in the past and how the English were actually successful in taking it over. Later learned it was forcefully claimed back and forth many times between the English and Scots. It was eerie looking in the tunnels where many soldiers passed away throughout time.

The view at the top of the castle, the memorials and the Scottish Jewels were beautiful. What a Bonny Sight!

  • Glasgow

    September 3, 2023 in Scotland ⋅ ☁️ 19 °C

Arrived in Glasgow for the night. Grabbed a bite to eat and tried Scotland’s favourite soft drink Irn Bru for the first time. I think it tastes like Cream Soda.

P.S. never ask for a Glaswegian Kiss 😅Read more

  • York

    September 2, 2023 in England ⋅ ☁️ 22 °C

Felt as if we travelled back in time as we walked through Medieval York. York Minster took my breath away and to Emma’s embarrassment I couldn’t help but let out a “Wow!”. It was amazing to learn about the history of York as we passed old buildings on cobblestone roads.

Naturally I had to sample some chocolate before dinner as York is famous for their chocolate. We then ate at the Black Swan and I felt it was my responsibility to eat a giant Yorkshire pudding while in York. My cousin Nathan would have been in his glory.

  • Stratford-Upon-Avon

    September 2, 2023 in England ⋅ ☁️ 20 °C

Upon fair England's verdant shores we tread,
Young Emma and her Kyle, love's flame in bloom,
With hearts as light as dreams that lovers wed,
In search of distant lands, to chase the gloom.

A chance, a twist of fate, our path was shown,
    Stratford-upon-Avon's name did beckon near,
The birthplace of a bard, where dreams are sown,
A poet's legacy whispered in the air.

Yet, Kyle, amidst this land of rich delight,
With Shakespeare's legacy and history's grace,
He knew, with Emma by his side so bright,
Her love outshone all England's finest place.

For though this land be wondrous to behold,
In Emma's love, his heart did find its gold.

  • British Museum

    August 31, 2023 in England ⋅ 🌧 17 °C

We explored the city and walked through Chinatown to get to the British Museum. Felt like I was in a Nicholas Cage movie looking for artifacts. Finally came across the famous Rosetta Stone and it reminded me of my mom and I making a replica out of clay for one of my history classes. The museum was so warm that we had to cool off with a Starbucks after. Em had to try Clotted Cold Brew for Aunt Val!Read more

  • Getting Lost in London

    August 31, 2023 in England ⋅ ☁️ 15 °C

We took the tube to Covent Garden and got “lost” from there exploring the streets of London. We kept our tradition alive of buying a Christmas tree ornament whenever we travel somewhere and paid my dad a tribute by indulging in some pierogis from a food truck. His ideal snack with some fried onions and sauerkrautRead more

  • We have arrived!

    August 30, 2023 in England ⋅ ⛅ 17 °C

We have finally arrived at our hotel! Thank you to Aunt Louella for driving us to Pearson Airport and giving us the compression socks for the flight. I think the socks worked great but now Emma and I have cats and dogs imprinted into our legs… After arriving at Heathrow Airport we took a black cab to our hotel. Driving on the other side of the road is going to take some getting used to. Despite only getting a few hours of sleep Emma told me she’s ready to rally and make the most of the day. I was happily surprised. First stop is Emma’s request of going to “Joe and the Juice”. Stay tuned.Read more
