After lunch, we took a 3 mile hike which followed the river. After returning I headed to the spa and enjoyed an hour and 40 minute hot stone massage which was pure bliss, while Brian lazed in the hot tub.

Hike by the River

Beautiful 3 mile hike on the grounds which followed the river and the golf course. Recommended by our waiter at lunch. The hotel has 52 miles of trails for hiking, mountain biking or snow showing.

Wheeeeeeeeeee! Canopy!

Breakfast in the grand dining room before heading to the Bretton Woods Adventure Center for a 3 hour canopy tour which included 9 zip lines, 3 suspension bridges and the opportunity to rappel down from a platform or tree.

Brian was a rockstar. I was with rappelling but need a remedial course in zip lines. I, however, fared better than my jacket. I’m soon to earn a Purple Heart for wounds incurred during this adventure.

The real feat was I went 3 hours without a bathroom break 😳Read more

An early dinner in the main dining room of the hotel. There’s a large wooden dance floor in the center. Food was less than memorable, but the views from the table were great.

Time to say goodbye

Our Tri-Corner trip has come to an end. It’s been a great vacation, as they say, all good things must come to an end. We’ve managed to save some things for “next time.” Jamestown, Monument Avenue, the Edgar Allan Poe Museum and Millie’s Diner in Richmond as well as the vampires grave in Hollywood Cemetery we missed this round. Second times a charm. Made it back to St. John’s Episcopal Church for the tour. Found out that Patrick Henry never prepared or wrote down speeches (one having lasted 6 hours). He was considered by the other founding fathers to be the greatest orator.Read more

Historic Williamsburg - Day 2

A sunny, clear day. Enjoyed visiting with other tradesman like the barber and the wig maker. Enjoyed a delightful outdoor play about a female astronomer Caroline Herschel, born in 1750, who discovered several comets.

Also, enjoyed an interactive presentation with President Thomas Jefferson. We were told by people sitting beside us that this Jefferson was the best and would soon be retiring.Read more

Historic Williamsburg

Our first day wandering the streets of this historic city. Spent time with the tradesmen in their shops. Saw great interactive theatre at the Capitol where we participated in events leading up to the moment Virginia said yes to independence.

At the courthouse, sat in on some re-enactments of actual cases brought before the court at Williamsburg. One was a man who had not attended church in a month 😳.

My favorite was a play about the complex relationship between Jefferson and Jupiter. They started out friends as little boys but ended as servant and master. The actors wrote the play as well.

Watched the fife and drum corps as they performed on the courthouse green as the sun set.Read more
