  • Arc de Triomphe, Champs-Elyesse shopping

    24 Kasım 2024, Fransa ⋅ 🌬 15 °C

Started the day with a bus to Arc de Triomphe. No dogs allowed inside so CJ stayed below while Bill and Meredith climbed the 284 steps to the top. Great views from the terrace and interesting museum inside the top floors.
We then headed to the Louis Vuitton flagship store on the Champs Elysees. Meredith and CJ walked the store and Bill went to get our transportation passes for three days. He managed to get a pic of us coming out of the store. It was gorgeously decorated and we found a wallet for €345 the cheapest item we found.
Off we went to Nike and across the street to Lulu Lemon and then down the street for lunch. We managed to grab a few gifts for family and friends, but not much. We mostly walked and saw the Christmas decor and festivities.

We returned to the Champs Elysee at 7pm to watch the street light up with their twinkling Christmas lights on the trees that lined the street.

  • Eiffel Tower day!

    26 Kasım 2024, Fransa ⋅ ⛅ 8 °C

Opened 1889 April. They added elevators in June of that year.

72 scientists names around the tower in gold. All died before the tower went up. No women. 24 guys paint it it has been 7 colors original was red. Takes 18 months they do it by hand.

Outside it is painted the newest color brown with some gold for the Olympics but not the inside they did not have enough money to do it.

Took them two years 2 months and 5 days to build. No one died

330 meters tall. There are two levels with restaurants and the summit is the smallest level. You can see the exact same sights from the second level as Paris isn’t a tall city!

Whilst the girls were touring de Eiffel, Daisy and Bill went hunting for a specific Christmas present. It was initially seen several weeks ago but not bought on that impulse. “There will be plenty more”. Nope! Every place we’ve gone to get it are sold out. After our 5k to 4 different shops (1 which didn’t exist) we are on the bus back to Eiffel Tower from Luxembourg Palace. Nice scenic walk, pretty drive back. All for nought. I guess someone gets coal, or an IOU instead. No pictures, too depressing….

  • Last day!

    27 Kasım 2024, Fransa ⋅ ☁️ 10 °C

Meredith left at 8am to try for an 1130am flight. Must be a good negotiator since she wound up (allegedly) getting bumped into first class. Hope she doesn’t get used to that!
CJ, Daisy and Bill took a last stroll through the Jardin de Ranelagh. Lord Ranelagh, an Irish citizen opened a very successful public ball and was copied by a Frenchman named Morisan starting the first Ranelagh public ball in 1771 in Paris. In 1860, baron Hayden converted the grounds into a public park.
We wound up at a little Pattisserie getting quiche, pastries and coffee drinks. Packed everything up into Myrtille and took her on a final trip to the airport hotel, then returned our faithful companion after 16,930km (more metrics in our final blogs!).
Now WFH (working from hotel) then to find a restaurant for dinner and last sleep before the return trip on Thanksgiving day!
