    Drive to Asheville first leg!

    We drove from 72 Pine Beach to Asheville today. Nothing really exciting happened. Except it was a drive back through memory lane- we drove this way for three years to visit Kamryn at Clemson! The colors are starting to show off and the weather is cooling down. Tonight’s low in Asheville is 36F. A bit chilly for a walk after dinner.
    Cheers to a great week with our friends. And as all can see Daisy is in this trip! She will get her 5-6th states adding Tennessee and Kentucky!    Read more

    We drove 2.5 hours to Knoxville and met up with Mere (our BIP bestie) and shared a working lunch and walk around downtown. Thanks Mere!!

    Finding dead people

    A Genealogist is someone who knows more about ancestors who died more than 100 years ago than their neighbors. At least that’s what the T-shirt says.
    Glyn went with me the 5 hours north to Ft Wayne, IN home of the Allen County Public Library and 2nd largest genealogy library in the US. It’s huge, and I was really unprepared!
    They have a large room for family histories, next to a larger room with books on every county in every state. Then there’s the media room with newspapers and magazines from all over. It’s an amazing resource. So nice to see a name mentioned in an index then go pull the book and read the details to find more facts for the tree.
    While I didn’t find more details on the specific person I was researching, I found immigration records for about 15 ancestors and learned some new research techniques. So a few days well spent.
    Be nice to your descendants and leave a well documented and highly legible research trail!    Read more

    Week of fun!

    Well we helped Lea and Glyn arrange their garage and deposit 3 car loads of donation stuff.
    Along with organizing some rooms, dusting, vacuuming and general cleaning.
    Bill and Glyn went to Ft Wayne for Bill to visit a Genealogy library and learn more about his ancestors. Lea and CJ hung in Versailles and visited with her mom, Wanda.
    CJ met the K-sisters too - we had a fabulous night of fun, chatting and making chocolate covered pretzels!
    A little shopping and some errands as well as attending Versailles Baptist Church!

    Monday we went to Kenneland Horse Racing Park wheee Glyn works and enjoyed a nice breakfast. We saw an art exhibit and walked the main area and saw the horse track!

    Wednesday Lea, Wanda and CJ went to Tammie’s Diner and visited an old covered bridge!

    Thursday night was Pint Night with 14 others at a cool little pizza place!

    We just so enjoy spending time with our best buddies we met in B’ham over 25 years ago!
