We hiked from Milngavie to Drymen today…14.25 miles with a diversion to Glengoyne Distillery. No rain and the sun came out for the last 2 hours! Things learned… it was crazy muddy, it took longer and was more technical that we anticipated, and Scottish people are in incredibly friendly!Read more

Today was really hard! We had pouring rain, beautiful sunshine, and 35 mph winds! We climbed Conic Hill, and clearly the Scots have a sense of humor because it felt like we were climbing up Mt. Everest! Another 14 mile day, highlighted by Cathy falling into Loch Lomond!Read more

On the plus side... we didn't die!

Today was like crazy, legit hiking. Climbing over boulders where you hoped you wouldn't kill yourself if you took one wrong step, crossing 8 thousand streams, walking across a gazillion muddy bogs, for a total of 13.7 miles. Sara started to get a sore knee yesterday, and the last 2 miles could barely walk! Luckily, every bar at these tiny inns is happy to give you a bag of ice! We had an unexpected sunny day today! We were told that this part of Scotland gets 280 days per year of measurable rainfall, which made today’s weather even sweeter. 13 miles but way “easier” than yesterday. We’ve been seeing the same hikers on and off for the last 4 days, which has been fun.Read more

We can’t believe there’s only 2 days left! Today was another mix of sun, clouds and a few massive downpours! One of the things people say when you do this walk, is how cool it is to meet the people along the way. Super awed by Dave and Margaret from Saskatchewan, who at 75 and 78 were walking as fast as we were!

Tonight we're staying at the luxurious Kingshouse Hotel, where we met a friendly wedding photographer, watched the nuptial festivities from afar, and toasted family and friends, near and far, new and old. Slainte!Read more

Day 6 - Devil’s Staircase

Today was the not-so-nice Scottish weather we feared. We hit the highest elevation point on the trail, and heading down from that was windy and rainy. Today was only 9miles, but the last 3 were downhill on an old military road, which did no favors to Sara’s sore knee. We shared dinner in Kinlochleven with our day one trail friends Jim and Glenn. Excited for our friends who are flying over to London tonight, that we will meet up with on Thursday!Read more

What an adventure! We truly experienced it all: spectacular scenery, wonderful new friends, biting winds, heavy rain, brilliant sunshine, blistered feet, sore joints, excellent scotch, warm and welcoming Scottish people, crisp cider, adorable dogs, chips with curry gravy...we could go on and on. We learned a lot about ourselves and each other, and we are already planning our next big walk!Read more
