  • Strange visions in the desert

    8 de março de 2024, Estados Unidos ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

On the way from Anza-Borrego to Phoenix I end up in Roswell? Not really, but feels like it…
I had planned to visit a ghost town in the Kofa mountains, but the gravel road leading there was not in a kind of shape that I wanted to risk it with my camper. so I had some extra time to spend at the campsite and enjoy the desert.Leia mais

Today was mainly administration with shopping, and unfortunately my bike had a flat tire and I needed to find a bike shop and get it repaired. Apart from driving for about four hours, I have time for a quick stop in Tempe. This university town in the Phoenix area has a nice artificial lake right in downtown.Leia mais

  • Between Phoenix and Tucson

    10 de março de 2024, Estados Unidos ⋅ ☀️ 16 °C

I skipped Phoenix as I spent 3 days there already and make my way to Tucson. On the way I visit the Casa Grande Ruins of the Hohokam culture, built 700 years ago, stop at a flea market, and take a look at Pinal Air Base where hundreds of old planes are supposed to stand around. Unfortunately I didn’t see too many from the one access roadLeia mais

  • Tucson

    10 de março de 2024, Estados Unidos ⋅ ☀️ 24 °C

In November I just visited the desert museum and so nothing of Tucson downtown at all. Time to rectify that! I went to El Presidio, the old Spanish downtown area and up the A-Mountain to get a look at the city from above. I also spend a few hours in the art museum, and eat at El Charro, the oldest continuously, operating Mexican restaurant, owned by the same family in America. That means, they’ve been around for more than hundred years and deserved it - the food was really excellent.Leia mais

After breakfast with my friends, Rob and Sandy, I drive along Interstate 19. On a 45 minute drive I passed through three very different phases of Western impact on this land: a Spanish mission ruin from 1691, a still existing mission church now in an Indian reservation, and a Cold War Titan II missile silo…Leia mais

    16 de março de 2024, Estados Unidos ⋅ ⛅ 15 °C

I heard on the radio that there’s a rodeo, and I decided to go. It was interesting to get there: Fort Huachuca is an active US Army base, at the gate I was told that I’m a foreign, I need an escort to get to the rodeo arena. So a car was send that I needed to follow, but on the back out nobody cared… The rodeo was a lot of fun! Much larger than I expected, and everybody was cheering for the local team. The rest of the day I drove around the area and checked out minor sights.Leia mais
