    This trip's last day.

    3 hours ago in Japan ⋅ ⛅ 24 °C

Today was spent winding down in Yokohama, readying to fly home. While I sit at Haneda, I think of all the amazing rides, sights and meals I've enjoyed these past 2 weeks. The places visited, people met, laughs & joy experienced and goals achieved. On the two motorbikes ridden on the islands of Kyushu and Honshu, I've travelled nearly 3500kms, and lost count of the villages, towns, cities and prefectures visited in that time. What a trip. To everyone who supported me on this journey, followed my adventures, or took the time to show me Nihong, a heartfelt domo arigato gozaimasu! 😊 🏍️🗻♨️🏯⛩️🇯🇵🙏❤️Read more

  • Lake Suwa to Yokohama

    Apr 18–19 in Japan ⋅ ☀️ 21 °C

After another great breakfast, I headed on to Fujiyoshida to take the famous Chureito Pagoda with Mt Fuji in the background photo; and the weather didn't disappoint. Afterwards, I rode to Yokohama and spent the evening walking the city and visiting craft breweries.Read more

  • Kurobe Gorge to Sawando National Park

    Apr 16–17 in Japan ⋅ ☀️ 14 °C

With the rain gone, and another beautiful breakfast, I headed off for Toyama. Along the way, I came across shrines and cemeteries on the road before winding my way back up the Alps. Turquoise rivers, waterfalls and many bridges and tunnels wound up the Tracer, a bike that loves leaning into the curves. Finally landed at a small motorbike rider Ryokan in Sawando run by an old husband & wife with an excessively hot onsen (so wasn't in the spa long!). Tomorrow the bike gets a rest as I'll be walking the nature of Komikochi before heading to Suwa Lake in the afternoon.Read more

  • Matsumoto to Kurobe

    Apr 15–16 in Japan ⋅ 🌧 13 °C

Another amazing day! (until it started raining🙄). Left Matsumoto for Hakuba to take in the majestic snow capped mountains, blue streams, cherry blossoms and Olympic ski jumps! Then the rain hit and I decided I just couldn't get to Toyama and decided to stay in Unazuki instead. What a great decision! Onsen spa, amazing buffet dinner & breakfast served, so why not?! (I've also included photos of what the end of my days usually look like 😊).Read more

The day finished with me walking past Matsumoto castle to local craft breweries, sharing stories with a firefighter and Chinese bar owner who loves visiting Matsumoto as much as I do.Read more

Another big day riding amazing twisties at the top of the mountains, especially the Izu Sky Line and Nishi-Izu Sky Line. I recorded so much on the action cam and 360 that I'll post it as soon as I can. A bit overcast, but still so awesome!Read more

  • Fukuoka to Yokohama

    Apr 11–12 in Japan ⋅ ☀️ 26 °C

Rode from Karatsu to Fukuoka then caught a Shinkansen to Shin-Yokohama. I thought I'd be looking out the window for the 4.5hr trip but instead spent the whole journey speaking with Takeshi Kurihara, an 82 year old Yokohama gentleman, that spent decades rolling out microfilm around the world. We discussed Japan, our common interest in travel and technology and his still working in engineering camera components. A very interesting guy that made for a very fast trip.Read more

  • Unzen to Karatsu

    Apr 10–11 in Japan ⋅ ⛅ 17 °C

Wet, wet, wet! I heard it was pouring when I woke up so I checked the weather and rain forecast was for hours so I just had to go. After leaving Unzen, I stopped to view the buried houses (1995 volcano) and by midday, the rain had stopped and I was good all the way to Karatsu. Walked the castle, and enjoyed dinner overlooking the river from my room.Read more

  • Ebino to Aoshima

    Apr 7–8 in Japan ⋅ ☀️ 18 °C

Started the day with a glass of warm mixed fruit juice before walking to the nearest shrine from the farmhouse. Enjoyed a home prepared breakfast before riding the Ebino Plateau, then on to Kirishima before lunch, which was snacks on the side of the road with some monkeys. Rode on to Cape Toi to see the wild horses before Easter Island heads(!) then had an amazing ride up the Nichinan coastline to Aoshima for a soothing onsen, local seafood dinner and Miyazaki craft beers. Will be sleeping to the sound of waves rolling on to the beach, and feel like I'm settling into the groove now, navigating Japan on a rental BMW and my speaking Nihongo (just as well as I meet with my tutor in Nobeoka tomorrow! 😉).Read more
