    Lincoln National Park (cont'd)

    These photos include more aspects of the bike in this area including the obelisk statue to acknowledge Matthew Flinders for the work he did in circumnavigating this country an how difficult it must have been.
    Most of the time (based on the accounts that we read) the explorers struggled to find enough fresh water which most of food the time was sourced from digging holes into the ground and hoping to strike ground water.
    There are also stories of some of Flinders crew getting lost and not surprisingly Flinders himself only lived to age 41(?) young in any event and again common because of the illness and disease commonplace at this time in history. Met a group of international tourists who travel with this guy in a bus around Australia which seemed like a very cool job.     Czytaj więcej

    Coffin Bay Oyster Trail

    Small seaside town nestled into the national park area. We walked along the Oyster Trail which follows the natural contours of the town beach and weaves its way through many of the beach houses located here.
    It is mainly a 4 wheel drive area into most of the walks however we were able to find others that were accessible.
    Interesting the amount of salt tolerant species of plants that grow in this area.     Czytaj więcej

    Coffin Bay National Park

    First time ever seeing wild emus with chicks...6!
    Also got up close with kangaroos and lizards and explored a variety of different ecosystems as the wind and weather favours different plants and locations.
    Lots of lakes and birdlife which is a m indication of the health of the wetlands here.
    Curious succulents with some beautiful flowers as a part of the plant which I assume is a native species.     Czytaj więcej

    Pt Lincoln Foreshore

    Pt Lincoln is a deep water harbour that is used for grain and loading and transport amongst other things. The council has established a 9km walk around the foreshore area and taking in many of the different secluded beaches in the area.
    There is a beautiful protected natural swimming pool attached-to the local pier and the temperature was ideal on the day we swam there.
    Apparently Pt Lincoln has the highest no of millionaires living in a particular region of the town than anywhere else in the state and all because of the tuna industry. Incidentally, they now farm tuna to ensure they have sustainable levels of a variety of tuna in Australia at least.     Czytaj więcej

    Meningie

    Meningie is a small country town with a fascinating environmental history. It sits on the shores of a very large inland lake that has been the food source and mainstay of both indigenous and early settler communities.
    The lake was degraded due to over fishing and losing water flows due to irrigation commitments to other areas. This was the local communities call to action and an example of how history and heritage can work together for the common good as the water levels have been restored and the lake seem to be in excellent health.

    Robe

    Beautiful historical beachside town that is popular with the wealthy property owners in the area that see Robe as their seaside escape.
    Beautiful sandstone blocks are the characteristic “look” of Robe that blends both the style and the history of the area.
    There are many opportunities foe sight seeing around Robe and the area is renown for its 4 wheel drive beach access and it’s classy eating restaurants.     Czytaj więcej
