  • Glass museum

    November 3, 2022 in Italy ⋅ ⛅ 17 °C

Murano has housed the local glass making industry since all of Venice's glass makers were forced to move there in 1291. This museum is on that island.

Hard to take good pictures of glass work that is behind other glass.Read more

  • Osteria al Duomo

    November 3, 2022 in Italy ⋅ ⛅ 18 °C

Our schedule for the day got shifted around a bit and we needed a new place for lunch. This was selected because, while you wouldn't know it to look at it from the sidewalk, it has a large treed courtyard as part of its dining space. It was a very relaxing spot to sit and enjoy a very tasty lunch.Read more

  • Venice transportation

    November 3, 2022 in Italy ⋅ ☁️ 17 °C

Most of the non-walking options in and around Venice are on the water. There are vaporettos, sort of the local "bus", taxis and of course gondolas. There are also many private boats in all shapes and sizes.

Also shown here is what a "bus" stop looks like.

  • Chiesa di San Giacomo di Rialto

    November 4, 2022 in Italy ⋅ ⛅ 16 °C

We saw these unique clocks in several places in Italy. It goes to 24, only had one hand and the numbers don't start at the top. I've concluded that it just simply tells you the hour of the day and that the minutes just don't matter to Venetians. LolRead more

  • Southampton, UK

    November 5, 2022 in England ⋅ ☁️ 14 °C

Ok, so there's a gap without pictures... I honestly just forgot to take pictures amidst the chaos.
    Let me catch you up....

We flew to London. Our coach bus that was supposed to take us to Southampton was almost an hour late picking us up... but that's just the beginning.

By the time we arrived in Southampton, the fireworks were already going off for the Guy Fawkes event. We could hear them as we walked in the rain to our hotel.

Our hotel got overbooked. So, a mix of good and bad news... We got bumped. But they refunded our money for our hotel stay, they paid for a room at the hotel next door for us and they paid for our breakfast for tomorrow. The replacement hotel is not as nice as the one we booked, and our room ended up being a disability room so everything in the room was a little weird. Within minutes of entering the room, Matt already accidentally set off the panic assist alarm. 😳

Tired, we decide to just go eat at the restaurant in the hotel. We quickly learn that between all the cruise ship people and the people pouring out of the Guy Fawkes party, all the restaurants around this area are packed and booked solid.

We came to terms that we won't be getting a nice British meal... heck we even couldn't get into the Nandos. With a bit of wait, we managed a table at TGI Fridays. 🤣🤣 The food was fine, but not what we had hoped to eat for our only meal in England.

We've now hobbled back to our room and are going to sleep. Not bothering with room photos, the room is fairly ugly and weve already scattered a mess of things all over the place. Lol

  • Carnival Celebration

    November 6, 2022 in England ⋅ 🌧 12 °C

The ship has arrived! What a beauty!
This ship is brand new. So new in fact that we will be the first passengers - this is her maiden voyage! And yes, I am aware that the Titanic's maiden voyage was a transatlantic cruise out of this very same cruise terminal. Hopefully no icebergs for us. Lol

Please note that once the ship leaves later today, the posts from me will likely stop. It's like 300 dollars for wifi on the ship. I'm not paying it. I'll try to keep taking pictures as I go and upload them after the cruise, or possibly when we are in port.

(Photos borrowed from other cruisers who have a hotel with a view of the port)

    ...to eat the foods
    ...to party on Lido
    ...to do it all!

A few little somethings to remember this trip. This cruise coin is beautiful.

... I can already hear Mitch say "It's not a coin" 🤣Read more
