  • Hellisheidi Geothermal Energy Exhibition

    April 30, 2018 in Iceland ⋅ 🌨 0 °C

They give tours here at the Geothermal Power Plant giving you the opportunity to learn how geothermal energy is harnessed in a sustainable manner in Iceland to provide power to the whole country.

The next tour wasn't for quite a while though, so we opted to keep moving since we knew we had a long day ahead of us.

  • Selfoss

    April 30, 2018 in Iceland ⋅ 🌧 2 °C

Another town we stopped in. I only took photos at the river though. This is the town where the Bobby Fischer Centre is, if any of you are chess fans. His grave is also near here too.

  • Kerið

    April 30, 2018 in Iceland ⋅ ⛅ 17 °C

Kerið is a volcanic crater lake. I think this may have been my favorite stop today. Such a cool looming place.

We stopped and had lunch at a tomato greenhouse today. We seriously sat right in the greenhouse! We had bottomless tomato soup made from tomatoes picked that morning. And with it we had bottomless bread. Thete was at least a half dozen types of bread to choose from and all were warm and fresh from the oven. At your own table you could customize your soup by adding fixins including herbs from plants growing right on your table. Pretty darn awesome!
We topped it off with a Bloody Mary for good measure.

We didn't have any dessert because we were too full, but they had tomato ice cream, cheesecake with green tomato jam, and a tomato and apple pie.

Basically, if you don't like tomatoes, don't eat here. Lol everyone else - I highly recommend eating here.

  • Geysir

    April 30, 2018 in Iceland ⋅ ☀️ 24 °C

First time ever seeing geysers erupt, and it was pretty awesome! Hard to time it right to get a good photo. My photos don't begin to do them justice.

Well, after eating Tomato soup in a Tomato Greenhouse was such a success, we opted to have some ice cream right at a dairy farm.

    Yummmmmmy!

    And Moooo!!

  • Þingvellir National Park

    April 30, 2018 in Iceland ⋅ ☁️ 2 °C

The Þingvellir area is part of a fissure zone running through Iceland, situated on the tectonic plate boundaries of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge.

I don't know a ton about tectonic plates, but I was once again in awe.

The first photo is cool. In fact I made it my wallpaper on my phone already.

Last photo in this group of 6 was just funny. Beware of scuba divers! Lol ... seriously though, people do scuba here she. It's nice outside.

  • A story about heavy traffic

    May 1, 2018 in Iceland ⋅ ☁️ 0 °C

So.. we are driving in the country in Iceland and we are all a bit tired so the car is silent as we sleepily gaze out the window at the landscape around us.

Out of the blue, our Google Maps proclaims "Traffic is getting worse, but you are still on the fastest route"
Everyone burst into laughter. Tears are streaming down our cheeks kind of laughter.

There is literally no one in front of us for miles and no one behind us for miles.

    Thanks Google. Lol.

Some snapshots of a cute fishing town we swung into for some seafood lunch today.

That funky building in picture 2 is a church.

  • Keflavik International Airport

    May 2, 2018 in Iceland ⋅ ⛅ 3 °C

Time to go home. Drinking an Appelsin (supposedly Iceland's favorite soda pop, according the the sign on the shelf) while waiting to board.

Overall this trip has been such a blast and as much as I would love to keep exploring... part of me is also looking forward to a good long sleep in my own bed tonight. The crazy weather in Iceland has left us all with a crappy cold.Read more
