  • St George's Chapel

    25 de abril de 2018, Inglaterra ⋅ ⛅ 12 °C

In just a few weeks Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will marry here at this very chapel. This was a beautiful chapel inside and out. The details in the architecture and in the stained glass windows was absolutely stunning. Again, photos are forbidden so I guess you'll have to wait until Harry and Meghan's wedding photos or video are published if you want to see the inside!Leer más

  • Stonehenge

    25 de abril de 2018, Inglaterra ⋅ 🌧 11 °C

We had great weather all day today, that is, except when we went to Stonehenge. It was not only raining, but quite windy as well. We were soaked and cold in no time... and could barely see because either our glasses were wet and foggy or rain was hitting us in the eyes so much you couldn't see. We quickly snapped a few photos and hid our cameras from the weather.

Yes, it's just a pile of rocks.. but it was still pretty darn cool.

  • Blame the Americans!

    25 de abril de 2018, Inglaterra ⋅ ⛅ 12 °C

Our tour guide had pointed out a few buildings where you could see there were spaces where windows used to be but aren't anymore. He joyfully told us England blames America for it and that he wasn't going to explain why.

For the rest of the trip he continued to point to bricked up windows and asking us "who do we blame?" And we all laughed and chanted "America!" ... even the Americans.

In the end he finally told us the story. Apparently when America declared Independence, it put Great Britain in a financial bind. In order to collect more money, a new property tax was implemented that was based on how many windows your building had. And you paid a significantly higher tax on any windows above 10. Some removed windows and bricked them over in order to avoid paying the extra tax. Others lost their windows because if you were unable to pay your taxes.. they would come and smash out your "surplus" windows.

And that, is why they blame America.

Today, even if you wanted to put a window back in, you can't necessarily just do it. A lot of the building form part of protected UNESCO world heritage sites and are required to be left exactly as they are.

  • McDonalds

    25 de abril de 2018, Inglaterra ⋅ ⛅ 10 °C

Traffic issues getting back to London. We were hungry and tired so McDonalds to go hit the spot. None of us felt up to sitting in a restaurant tonight.

Nothing special on the menu really, if you're wondering. So just had a Big Mac... and well, everyone knows what a Big Mac looks like so I didn't bother with a photo.Leer más

  • Tower Hill Memorial

    26 de abril de 2018, Inglaterra ⋅ ⛅ 11 °C

Stumbled across this Memorial this morning on our way to the Tower of London. This Memorial commemorates the men of the Merchant Navy and Fishing Fleets who have no grave but the sea.

More than 50,700 Commonwealth merchant seamen lost their lives in the two world wars. The Tower Hill Memorial commemorates more than 35,800 casualties who have no known grave.Leer más

  • Tower of London

    26 de abril de 2018, Inglaterra ⋅ ⛅ 11 °C

The Tower of London is not just a tower. It's a whole castle/palace. It's also where the Crown Jewels are kept. I took tons of random photos where I could but of course rooms with things like the Crown Jewels we were not allowed to take photos. Here are some photos taken around the property.

Hard to choose only 6 so there will be a few parts...

  • Blue Moon

    26 de abril de 2018, Inglaterra ⋅ 🌙 10 °C

Remember that first night when we tried to eat at that Thai place? Well tonight it was open, so we went. We didn't have the best experience there. It's not a big place, and they only had a table for 2 available, but we were 3... and they were just like "sorry, can't help you". So we deliberated outaide for a bit and decided to go back in and order food to go since they do take out and delivery as well. Food took twice as long to be ready as they quoted us and when we got back to the house, Tammie's order was wrong and the food she got was... not particularly filling. Matt and I both though our food was OK at best. We won't be rushing to go back there anytime soon.Leer más

  • Buckingham Palace Changing of the Guards

    27 de abril de 2018, Inglaterra ⋅ ⛅ 8 °C

Found a great spot ... was ready to watch the ceremony.. and then came the rain....and then the guy in front of me decided to put his kid up on his shoulders. Sigh. Thanks buddy. I travelled across the globe to watch your child's bum in my face for an hour or two... really.

Hard to tell in the photo because of how the flag is sitting but that is the Union Flag... So no Queen at Buckingham today.
