Met two french guys from Brittany with a trailer. https://www.instagram.com/caraveloop/ and jasper with a dog and a cargo bike from Denmark. The French guys were on the same ferry as I apparently!

When you press the foot pedal, the metal part tips down and it's actually a flexible metal sheet that rotates / band on rollers so anything sticking to it gets scraped off. I think clivus multrums might have this as well.
