• GR131 day8: Corralejo-El Cotillo

    April 20, 2025 in Spain ⋅ 🌬 21 °C

So many impressions today...changing landscapes and temperatures, and a day full of surprises... Started in Corralejo...towards the chain of volcanoes that stretches to Lajares...I passed the Bayuyo volcano, and here I saw my first chipmunks...shortly after, I met Sören from Karlsruhe, who had hiked Fuerteventura from south to north and gave me a few tips... I still couldn't pass the 'Calderon Hondo' volcano...it literally drew me in...I left my backpack at the bottom...nobody carries something that heavy 😄 ...it was worth it, and the climb was only short. Then I stopped in Lajares to charge my phone and take a break...continued through the desert, where the wind was blowing so hard that I couldn't walk without a shelter...luckily, the wind was coming from behind and gave me a little push... My goal was an outdoor shelter on the mountain...closed on three sides...should be fine, I thought...no way...the wind was still too strong inside that I simply couldn't set up my tent... So I had to keep looking for something else...by now it was already 6:40 p.m....It took me about an hour to get to El Cotillo...when I got there, I experienced a beautiful sunset, but I couldn't really enjoy it because I had to find a place to sleep🤔 There's a steep wall along the beach, a local told me a short time before...that I would be protected there... But the wind was still blowing hard...finally, I found one of the typical round stone wall structures that serve as a windbreak, somewhat secluded in the third or fourth bay.Relieved and tired, I made my sleeping spot. ready...good night!Read more
