  • Hurry up and wait

    11 Haziran 2023, Avustralya ⋅ ☁️ 10 °C

Get to the airport early to get through security and passport control. That takes 15 minutes. Now we wait hours for boarding to start. Oh, and it's so early that none of the shops are open. 😂

We did find some painted pandas though...Okumaya devam et

  • A short stop

    11 Haziran 2023, Birleşik Arap Emirlikleri ⋅ 🌙 32 °C

No photos this time. Everyone feeling a bit tired and cranky. Still, we are at the 2/3rds point of the journey and looking forward to arriving in London in 7 hours.

  • Breakfast at Windsor

    Grabbing breakfast at Windsor Castle

  • Windsor Castle then onto Bath

    12 Haziran 2023, İngiltere ⋅ ⛅ 23 °C

Our original plans has been to drive straight from the hotel in Heathrow to our accommodation in Bath, but after getting away earlier than expected we took an impromptu side trip to Windsor to get some breakfast. While we were that we decided to visit Windsor Castle. Such a fascinating, beautiful place. Worth the visit.

From Windsor we headed down the M4 motorway to Bath.

Arrived in Bath in the afternoon, took a bit of a wrong turn and spent the next 20 mins trying to get to the apartment along some of the steepest, narrowest streets you've ever seen. Fun times.

We're having an early night tonight with more adventures to follow tomorrow.

  • Annabelle's Day

    12 Haziran 2023, İngiltere ⋅ ☁️ 23 °C

When we first got to Windsor we had to find some food. So that means we had to walk and walk. After breakfast we discovered a church with old graves including a famous knight. Next we were walking around discovering new things and we found a tourist shop. I bought Junior P, which means Junior Paddington. He is the bear in the photo. Then we were walking up the alley and we saw a grand castle, so we wandered up to it and we saw that you could go in so we asked the person what time we could go in and they said 12 o'clock. Then daddy said how do you buy tickets and the girl said online. So we bought tickets and a couple of hours later we lined up to go in. After 26 minutes of lining up we got past security then we got our digital tour guide which gave facts about all the rooms we could explore, with headphones of course. We were exploring the palace and we got food and we saw where the Queen was buried and we got a book all about the palace. Once we got out we took off to Bath and found out the roads are small, steep, twisty, turny, and tiny.Okumaya devam et

  • Welcome to Bath

    13 Haziran 2023, İngiltere ⋅ ☀️ 25 °C

A more relaxed pace today. Last night we visited a grocery store and picked up some supplies, so this morning we were able to have a quiet morning at the apartment before we headed out for some sight seeing.
First stop, the Royal Crescent and a visit to the museum in Apartment 1 which has been restored to what it would have looked like in Georgian times.
We then headed to a nearby cafe for an early lunch.
It is quite warm today, around 29°, and Tom was wilting in the sun and refusing to walk anywhere, so we jumped on to a hop on, hop off tour bus and did a quick loop of Bath, with commentary. Then we left Danielle on the bus to let her go back to the shipping precinct to buy herself some more comfortable clothing for this hot weather, and the rest of us headed back to the apartment via a convenience store for a much needed ice cream.

  • The Roman Baths

    14 Haziran 2023, İngiltere ⋅ ☀️ 17 °C

Today we visited the Roman Baths. It was a fascinating ancient Roman site.

  • The Pump Room

    14 Haziran 2023, İngiltere ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C

After our tour of the Roman Baths, we enjoyed a delicious afternoon tea in the Grand Pump Room. Many scenes from my favourite Georgette Heyer Regency novels occur in the Pump Room, where the members of the ton would gather to see and be seen, as well as partake off the mineral waters, which you can still drink today. We all tasted the water, and it is as foul as the books proclaim.Okumaya devam et

  • Bath Abbey

    14 Haziran 2023, İngiltere ⋅ ☀️ 25 °C

Tom was feeling a little weary, I think jet lag and several days of walking all over Windsor and Bath has caught up with him, so Danielle and Tom went back to the apartment to let him rest up for the afternoon.
Simon and Annabelle paid a visit to the thousand year old Bath Abbey, and then a tour of the country side on a tourist bus.

  • Adventure golf

    15 Haziran 2023, İngiltere ⋅ ⛅ 22 °C

We went for a change of pace this morning and decided to play a round of golf. It was a close fought battle and Danielle even lost her ball in the rough (is that even possible in putt putt golf?), but everyone was a winner in the end.Okumaya devam et

  • Terrace houses

    16 Haziran 2023, İngiltere ⋅ ⛅ 25 °C

Everywhere we go, there is row upon row of terrace houses. We are so fortunate in Australia to have the luxury of so much space.

  • Exploring Oxford

    16 Haziran 2023, İngiltere ⋅ ☁️ 19 °C

After driving from Bath, we spent the day exploring Oxford, including checking out the Natural History Museum and Ashmolean Museum. It was fascinating to see the extensive collections gathered by the British from around the world (including actual mummies). It was fascinating walking around a university town, with buildings and architecture that bears a strong resemblance to Hogwarts. There are so many students and young people getting around in groups. We stumbled onto the 'offbeat festival', which is a festival for theatre, dance, spoken word and art. We met a lovely artist couple who taught us a word guessing game called crambo, which is a rhyming game from the 14th Century.Okumaya devam et
