Perfect morning hike, other than lots of people, dogs, and bikes on a Saturday morning. Tom & Linda got advice from neighbor about dog friendly trails. Great time among the Saguaros here in Tucson.
Quick stop for snack, beer & bloody Mary’s at Monsoons.
Afternoon rest.
This evening meeting Renegade friends Doris and Dennis Moeller for dinner. Great dinner, fun reunion and everyone enjoyed new friends.Leer más

This morning walked M & P at Felix Paseo park, lots of loops around native flora and cacti. Fun dinner at a 50’s retro diner, good friends and good food.

Maeveen Behan and Bachs Cactus Nursery

First Deuce got spruced up with an excellent wash & wax. It’s been awhile since she looked so good.
Yesterday M&P had a wash and condition at DIY Dog Wash, they are so soft and clean. Today we took the girls to Maeveen Behan Desert Sanctuary for a 2.2 mile hike. Lovely easy trail walk with lots of cacti species.
Stopped at Bachs Cactus Nursery bought some String of Pearls and Baby Bunny Ears, as well as Talavera Coyote for rock garden.Leer más

Hiking again and Renegade Gathering

This morning we once again were out to Maeveen Behan Trail with the Jogodkas and Merrills. The furry girls Minnie, Pearl and Maggie May throughly enjoyed a jaunt among the desert cacti.
This afternoon another Renegade couple , Mark and Liz Cramer , who are at the Tucson KOA, stopped to pick up Dick and I here at the South Forty. Then we were off in the rain to Casa Grande. Julie Swartz said there are roughly 20 Renegades in the area and she pulled together a meet up at Anayas Mexican. Eighteen in attendance the Swartz, Moeller, Hooper, Cramer, Bowe, McCormick, Salem, Fahrenbruck…. Some old and new friends, some old and new Renegaders. Great time meeting, and bonding with fantastic Renegade family.Leer más

Mission and Tubac

Today the Jogodka, Merrill, Page and Hooper fams are touring.
Off to see the Mission San Xavier built between 1783-1797. Lovely peaceful church and landscaping. Teenage group on site cleaning up and working on grounds. “The White Dove of the Desert”. Today it is the parish church of the San Xavier reservation.
Then down the road to the 65th Annual Tubac Festival of the Arts. We and Merrill’s did some but not all of it as we had to attend to our furry kids. Although Maggie did go along to walk and be admired by people.
I’d really like to visit Tubac again.Leer más

Tohono Chul and Wildflower

In spite of cold wet weather this morning Linda, Connie, Marilyn and I went to the ceramic show at Tohono Chul. We were joined by my Renegade family, Julie Swartz and Doris Moeller, who drove down from Casa Grande. The rain stopped so we did enjoy the pottery on display and made some purchases.
Lunch at the Wildflower was super delicious. Gave us time to all have conversation and enjoy.
Linda has done an excellent job planning out fun activities while we were here.
Oops not a picture one, my bad.
This afternoon as Dick and I walked M&P through the South Forty, Gods handiwork was on display. I see these windows in the clouds as a welcoming to Heaven.Leer más

Apache Flats RV- Fort Huachuca

Back track to Sunday. Hiked another trail, Wildflower Ridge at Sweetwater Preserve.
Then Super Bowl at Tom & Marilyn Page. Chiefs pulled it out over the 49ers in overtime. I also won $60.00. We had a fun night and party including Merrill’s and Jogodkas.
Easy drive today to Fort Huachuca. Trivia , my parents were stationed here in 1957 and I was born off base in Sierra Vista.Leer más

Javelina, Our Lady of the Sierras Shrine

Morning walk around RV park and a pack of Javelina grazing on Cholla cactus.
This afternoon we drove up to Our Lady of the Sierras Shrine. Peaceful beauty overlooking the desert valley. Stations of the Cross, Angel of Revelation, Cross, Mary, and a small Chapel. There are still patches of snow throughout the southern mountains.
Look hard and you will see a white tethered aerostat watching a 200 mile area for drug traffickers.Leer más

Kartchner Caverns State Park

Yesterday we hiked 3.5 miles at the SP. It was the girls highest 4500’ and most elevation gain 455’ over the 3.5 miles. There were several water breaks and “splooting” in any shade to be found. Minnie panted her way through, Pearl takes it in stride. Expansive desert and Mountain View’s. Lots of Century and Ocotillo cacti. Several Centuries fallen over.
Then went to see Bob Marley One Love- a good man and the World needs more.
Today low key , cleaning, laundry, shopping. We’ve said we could easily winter here.
Dinner at the Angry German tonight was excellent. Only sad part was Nick & Debbie Segina, fellow Renegaders, didn’t get to join us due to a personal family emergency. Tomorrow off to Las Cruces.Leer más

Back to Las Cruces

We left Fort Huachuca on Friday heading back east with stop again at Las Cruces KOA.
Saturday morning up and off to the LC Farmers and Craft Market with the Merrills. We’ve been to many and this is one of my favorites. The three furry girls got to go and each enjoyed meeting many people and dogs. Then a walk along the newly named by us Rio Sand (formerly known as Grande). Dinner at the Merrills and we met neighbors Hal and Kathy, very nice people.
Sunday we headed south to Puerto Paloma , Mexico. Fun trek, shops, lunch and back to the USA.
Tomorrow we head east back to central time zone and Texas.Leer más

Viajero We lived on the wild side today and went to Palomas,Mexico just across the border about 60 miles west and south of Las Cruces. Fun time at La Tienda Rosa ( The Pink Store ) for shopping and lunch. Good news, no need to bail us out, made it back to USA via fenced crossing point in pic-ha !
