  • Brussels

    May 23 in Belgium ⋅ ☁️ 11 °C

And our first stop is Brussels in Belgium. A lovely town with beutiful architecture. We loved the gold leaf applied to the front of the buildings.

Note I've changed this post to focus more on Brussels itself, placing day trips to other towns in their own posts.Read more

Next up was a day trip to Gouda, famous for its cheese. But remember... next time you ask for the cheese, it's pronounced "How-duh", not "Goo-duh".

Anyway... Yes, the cheese was wonderful. As was the local favourite dish of Kibbeling, fried fish pieces with mayonnaise. 🐟😋Read more

  • Amsterdam

    June 1 in the Netherlands ⋅ ☁️ 19 °C

Today we jumped on an early train to go to Amsterdam and visit the places we missed the first time.

First up was the old Heineken brewery. It's a bit commercial with slick multimedia, but it was cool to learn how they brewed the beer all those years ago and see all the old copper brewing tanks.

Not to mention the tour includes 3 glasses of beer... 🍻😋👍

  • Amersfoort and Ann Frank's House

    June 2 in the Netherlands ⋅ ⛅ 16 °C

Because we had already spent time in Amsterdam, we decided to take a day trip to the lovely town of Amersfoort.

Afterwards, we got back to Amsterdam in the afternoon to take a canal tour.

Finally, our last stop was Ann Frank's house, which we were unable to visit last time because it's booked out months in advance. Quite a moving experience, but I was surprised to learn it wasn't her house. They hid in a warehouse, which I should've remembered from the book... but I read that a century ago. 😁Read more
