    National Civil Rights Museum

    May 19, 2023 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 73 °F

We've been on quite a journey the last few years exploring our country's race history past and really digging into truth. Visiting the National Civil Rights museum... at the Lorraine Hotel where Martin Luther King, Jr. was murdered was moving, beautiful, and heart wrenching.
We can both admit we did not know about the sanitation workers striker and how that all folded in. There was so much more about the organization of the movement that is glossed over typically.
Some of MLKs last words are haunting - he knew his time was short.
A must see for any American.

  • World Championship BBQ Contest

    May 19, 2023 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 81 °F

Meat lovers dream. Creative teams competing for big bucks. It was fun to wander around and see them in action. We did two separate events that allowed us to taste some 'cue, but primarily they are there to compete - not feed the public!Read more

  • Four Way Soul Food Restaurant

    May 20, 2023 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 72 °F

Lunch at the Four Way Soul Food Restaurant was an experience. From an article about it: "The Four Way soul food restaurant is famous for at least two things: first, it was a popular meeting spot for civil rights activists from the 1940s to the 1960s, including Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Second, the Four Way is famous for its straightforward Southern home cooking menu."
The pictures on the wall tell the story... and the food speaks for itself.

  • Peabody Hotel

    May 20, 2023 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 75 °F

We had to see the Peabody ducks, right? It was fun but we got there too late to get a really good view. We snuck upstairs and could see and hear quite well, but apparently you can pay to be the duck wrangler for the day and so this girl got to lead them to the elevator... so all we saw was her backside. lol

They were setting up for a wedding in the ballroom upstairs. It was stunning! This woman and I guessed at least $30,000 on flowers alone. At least!
