    Stunning flight!

    May 16, 2024 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 64 °F

I gave up watching my movie on the flight from Denver to Bozeman. The landscape is just stunning. Breath taking. Intimidating.

I pissed off the grumpy guy in front of me with whom I had a shared window when I opened the shade to see more. What a grouch. How can you not be moved by that?

Not the best pictures but had to try to capture it.

  • Bozeman Spirits

    May 16, 2024 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 68 °F

We will always find a distillery!
The bourbons were weak but the rye was ok. The charcuterie was needed while drinking whisky.
Really sweet bartender who came here from Vermont and loves it here.

We first heard about this James Beard nominated Thai fusion place on The Dish on CBS Saturday morning.

The door did not disappoint. The service was lacking. A little cocking about “I’m sure you’ve heard all about us”. Yeah - you and dozens of other James Beard nominees. Lol. We do this a lot.

    We had:
—the lamb dumplings that had a lovely amount of chili sauce and cilantro and were great.
—the Thai Larb with local beef which was rich and layered in flavor and had mint, dill and cilantro for building. I make Larb a lot. This was next level
—Dan Dan noodles. Rich. Umami. Layers of heat and flavor.

Service and ego aside, the food was amazing.

  • Big Sky: Horn and Cantle

    May 16, 2024 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 59 °F

I can’t remember where I heard about this place but it was on the way from Bozeman, so we popped in for a drink and a nibble. We each had a rye - Mama Tried and Sudden Wisdom Rye.
We also had an elk meatball and a smoked trout dip. Lovely.Read more

  • First Bison

    May 17, 2024 in the United States ⋅ 🌬 52 °F

We were between the West Entrance and Madison junction when the traffic for all crazy and lo and behold there is a her of bison. Fairly far away except one loner right by the road.

Lots of calves and several nursing. Pretty exciting start to the day.Read more

  • Elk herd

    May 17, 2024 in the United States ⋅ 🌬 50 °F

Just after our first bison we hit another spot with some traffic. Most just cruising through. But we were all in and decided to stop.

  • Mud pots

    May 17, 2024 in the United States ⋅ 🌬 52 °F

Moon landscape. Bubbling pools of mud like stuff. Just weird to watch. Reminded me of watching fermenting mash bill at a distillery.

  • Norris Geyser basin 1

    May 17, 2024 in the United States ⋅ 🌬 54 °F

This was stunning. Like a moon landscape. One of the signs referred to “this raw and acidic landscape” and that description was so perfect. It is raw and harsh and eerily beautiful.
The wind was crazy, the sounds of bubbling and hissing from different spots, the steam blowing across with the warmth and the smell of sulphur, all the colors from the minerals and microorganisms. It was surreal.Read more

  • Upper Falls - North Rim

    May 17, 2024 in the United States ⋅ 🌬 52 °F

Quick drive over to the North Rim side for another view of the Upper Falls. This was stunning. A little further away and with the perspective of more of the river.

A few shots the other direction in the canyon too. Just beautiful.Read more

  • Inspiration Point

    May 17, 2024 in the United States ⋅ 🌬 54 °F

Another stunning view down to the river. The colors in the rock are just amazing. Quiet and peaceful up there.

The giant rock in the trees is called Glacier Rock because it took a long ride down a glacier eons ago and when the glacier melted landed there.Read more

  • Mae West Curve

    May 17, 2024 in the United States ⋅ 🌬 55 °F

These hairpin curves in the road are named for Mae West. Not for HER curves but because they are as dangerous as her! Lol

Saw these three deer laying down and hanging out. Beautiful view.

  • Tower Falls

    May 17, 2024 in the United States ⋅ 🌬 61 °F

Unique formations above the falls are the reason this is called Tower Falls. We caught them from the road up behind too.

Also this solo bison just munching away near the parking lot and restrooms was a nice bonus.Read more

  • Mammoth Hot Springs Lower Terrace

    May 17, 2024 in the United States ⋅ 🌬 59 °F

The Mammoth Hotsprings were less than impressive. Not what we were expecting at all.

That being said, the formations here on the lower terrace reminded us both of Carlsbad Caverns. I said it was like the caverns inside out.

    Liberty Cap was pretty.

    Nice herd of deer too.
