3. Stop Khiva - Teil 1

Khiva hat uns total positiv überrascht und hat uns von allen Städten in Usbekistan am besten gefallen! Die historische Altstadt und die Stadtmauer sind noch super gut erhalten und selbst neue Gebäude werden eco-friendly mit Lehm verputzt und erhalten so den Charme der Stadt. Das Feeling der alten Seidenstraße war hier richtig greifbar (auch trotz der doch recht zahlreichen Touristengruppen).
Erst hatten wir ein Hotel direkt außerhalb der Altstadt, aber dort fühlten wir uns einfach nicht wohl, sodass wir in ein anderes Hotel direkt in der Altstadt wechselten - die beste Entscheidung überhaupt! Das Zimmer war toll, das Internet richtig gut und die Aussicht auf der Dachterrasse der Hammer! Und unser Gastgeber, Ulugbek, war super freundlich und erzählte uns auch einiges über die Region, z.B., dass es eine sehr starke regionale Identität gibt, die auf das Khanat Khivas und die Region Choresmien zurückgeht. Anders, als im Rest von Usbekistan, wird hier der Volksheld Amir Timur auch sehr viel kritischer gesehen.

Khiva was a really positive surprise for us and out of all the cities we visited in Uzbekistan, we liked Khiva the most! The historic city center and the ancient city walls are still very well preserved and even new buildings are plastered with clay in an eco-friendly way, thus preserving the charm of the city. The feeling of the old Silk Road was very tangible (even despite the large number of tourist groups).
At first we had a hotel right outside the old town, but we just didn't feel comfortable there, so we changed to another hotel right in the old town - the best decision ever! The room was great, the internet was really good and the view from the roof terrace was amazing! Also, our host, Ulugbek, was super friendly and told us a lot about the region, e.g that there is a very strong regional identity that goes back to the Khanate of Khiva and the Khorezm region. And unlike in the rest of Uzbekistan, the national hero Amir Timur is viewed much more critically here.Read more
