  • Murdered Monk

    September 8, 2023 in Wales ⋅ ⛅ 18 °C

The "Little Church in the Sea", real name St Cwyfan's Church, originally stood at the end of a peninsula between two bays, Porth Cwyfan and Porth China. However, the sea slowly eroded around the coast in the two bays, therefore the peninsula was cut off, turning Cribinau into a small tidal island and a church in the middle of the sea. What a location!!!
The church is said to be haunted by the ghost of a monk who was murdered there in the 16th century.

    September 11, 2023 in Wales ⋅ ☁️ 17 °C

Porth Wen Brickworks is a fascinating place to explore, and offers a glimpse into the industrial past of Anglesey. Not a lot of places left to explore a site like this which lies abandoned for more than 100 years and slowly nature takes control again...
One story tells of a worker who was crushed to death by a falling brick. The ghost of this worker is now haunting the place...
And it was indeed a bit eerie to explore the site on an early and gloomy morning.

  • Collapsed!

    September 12, 2023 in Wales ⋅ 🌧 14 °C

The Pont Fawr in Llanrwst with the ivy covered teahouse as a backdrop is a popular spot for selfies and wedding photography.
But it wasn't always all sunshine here...
The bridge is made of three arches, the central one of which is the highest. The keystones for this arch were originally inserted upside down, but this was not discovered until the opening day, when the arch collapsed! The bridge was rebuilt, but the keystones were left upside down as a reminder of this mistake.Read more

  • Fast and Strong

    September 13, 2023 in Wales ⋅ 🌙 10 °C

Conwy castle was built in just four years. This was an incredibly fast construction time for a castle of its size and complexity. It is believed that Edward I spared no expense in building the castle, and that he used the latest engineering techniques to ensure its strength.
Which was well worth it: although it was attacked several times during its history, it was never taken by force.

  • Tiniest House

    September 13, 2023 in Wales ⋅ ⛅ 10 °C

Tiny homes are now very fashionable, but this tiny house on Conwy Quay was already built in the 16th century and is supposed to be the smallest house in GB.
It has a floor area of just 1.5 square meters and is about 6 feet wide by 10 feet high. It has only two rooms: a downstairs kitchen and an upstairs bedroom. There is no bathroom.
In 2021, the house was featured in an episode of the BBC TV show "Inside the World's Smallest Homes."
And in 2022, the house was given a new sofa by the sofa-in-a-box company Snug. The sofa is designed to fit into small spaces, and it is the first sofa to ever be placed in the house!

  • Dog's Fear

    September 13, 2023 in Wales ⋅ ☁️ 13 °C

Talacre lighthouse is the oldest lighthouse in Wales and was built in response to the storms of 1775, which sent two ships aground and cost over 200 lives. The lighthouse was decommissioned in 1883 and has been abandoned ever since.
But strange things are going on there: Some dog walkers report that their dog refused to go near the lighthouse. Even when they try to pull the dog towards the lighthouse, the dog digs its heels in and refuses to move.
And for sure the tide there is scary. I've never watched a tide coming in that quickly (seconds, not minutes), there's quick sand and even the car park gets flooded regularly at high tide without the sea coming close.
    Mysterious but beautiful!

  • Forgotten street

    September 14, 2023 in Wales ⋅ ☁️ 15 °C

Once it was the largest slate quarry in the world: Dinorwic Quarry!
Unfortunately due to some stupid instagrammers in 2019 who didn't use any common sense to gain a selfie, a lot of the area is fenced off. But still it's possible to roam and discover this fascinating place which was also often used as a film location (including Dr Who).
Particularly interesting is the so called forgotten street of quarrymen barracks. Most of the simple housing were dismantled, but one row they simply forgot...

  • No queues

    September 19, 2023 in France ⋅ ☁️ 22 °C

Similar to the Netherlands, in France there are EV chargers (rapid ones with 150 + 300 kW) at more or less every service station along the motorway. Usually at least two, often 4-6. The result: we never have to wait to charge!Read more

  • 24 hairpins in the fog

    September 20, 2023 in Switzerland ⋅ ☁️ 11 °C

Instead of taking the Gotthard tunnel, we decided to take the passroad. But not the new one - rather the old, historical one. The Tremola Pass is known for its steep and winding road, which consists of 24 hairpin bends.
It is 2106m elevated and while down in the valleys the sun was shining, we drove through thick clouds.

  • Tape fixed cars versus Hyperchargers

    September 21, 2023 in Italy ⋅ ⛅ 19 °C

Ultrarapid charger (<=150 kW) are called hypercharger in Italy
The last 12 months Italy developed a fantastic EV charging network, one of the best I have seen in Europe. Still no queues anywhere. But they love EV cars, there's a huge acceptance. I was wondering why there are no queues while in the UK one has to fight a grim battle to plug in one's car... I suppose it's because Italians stick to their old car beyond repair. They fix it often with tape to have a few more years. Together with a vast charging network and sponsored home chargers, this means less EVs per public rapid charger.Read more

  • 10,000 Miles!

    September 21, 2023 in Italy ⋅ ⛅ 24 °C

We have made it back to Umbria!
The estimated 10,000 miles are done and we never ran out of battery, no accident, no flat tyre (which is a miracle considering the state of the roads in Scotland), no breakdown! Great 500e!!!
Now it's time to remove hundreds of 🕷️🕸️🕷️🕸️🕷️🕸️ in the house and then the work on 30 something thousands of photos can begin. To be seen on my Insta, FB and website within the next weeks, step by step, location by location.
    Thanks for the travel company!
