Schloss Windsor

Heute besuchten wir ausgiebig das Schloss Windsor. Mit dem Zug ging es von der Stadt zügig fast direkt zum Schloss. Es hatte nur wenige Leute und wir konnten so alles ganz entspannt anschauen. Wirklich ein sehr eindrücklicher Ort, auch wenn ich immer wieder von den landenden Flugzeugen abgelenkt wurde die gleich über das Gelände fliegen um in Heathrow zu landen. Day 73: London to Knockdown

Caught the best UBER ever from the hotel to Heathrow. Berat our driver was a Kosovo born immigrant to London at age 16 during the Serbian war. He taught us so much and we learnt so much from him. From how to spot speed cameras to how he escaped the early 90’s war as a 16 year old. Unfortunately Graham told him to drop us at Avis when he’d booked our car through Hertz!! A few courtesy busses later and we were on our way in an upgraded hybrid Volvo. Took me 15mins to learn how to use it, start it and get out the car park. We went to Windsor Castle cos it was on our way. Beers. Drove to Reading to pick a place to stay for the night. Ended up in the classic gorgeous English Inn at Knockdown. I’m in heaven.Read more

Day trip to Windsor castle

We took a train out to Windsor castle today. Its 90 min or so out from London and a beautiful trip through the countryside. When I went last year it was PACKED but this time was really pleasant. Lots less people in the fall.

Headed back to the city and met up with a friend of Adams from college and her wife for a great Italian dinner and Filipino ice cream! Not quite sure what Adams look of surprise is about, but thought it was too cute not to post. 😂Never had it before - was a little nervous, but it was awesome. Hard to describe sweets in Europe … they just do them differently than the US. Much more flavor - not just sweet. Was fantastic.

Am Morgen fuhren wir nach Oxford und besuchten dort die Bodleian Library wo für den Harry Potter Film Film die Scene der Verbotenen Abteilung gedreht wurde.
Danach sind wir weiter zum Schloss Winsor gefahren. Das Schloss selbst war mega beeindruckend vor allem die Räume, welche man aber leider nicht fotografieren durfte. Später sind wir noch etwas durch den Ort geschlendert und haben super Abend gegessen.Read more

Spoiling the niece

Another morning visit in the back garden from Mrs deer and we were off to rush the goblin to here orthodontist appointment, after which I got to be awesome uncle and hang with her in Windsor.

Fed the swans on the river Thames, and marveled at the terror they seemed to induce in most of the people choosing to feed them 🤣 Met the most grumpy goose I've ever seen who was pacing up and down honking to themselves in a disgruntled fashion (photo evidence attached)

A visit to Gregg's for sausage rolls and pasties, before the inevitable bookshop and toy department visits.

My brother joined us for lunch at a cafe, then drive us home to pack for tomorrow's trip to Lundy Island!Read more

Day 42, Communion at Windsor Castle

We had gone to Evensong Saturday night and decided to return Sunday morning for the communion service. Very beautiful. Afterwards one of the priests invited us to join the group for coffee. Why not? It turned into a trip highlight as I had a fascinating conversation with a parishioner who had grown up in India and Mark spoke with two men, one who manages security at the chapel. I hope I’ve made visitors I’ve encountered feel as welcomed.Read more

Another wonderful, lovely day started with a talk by Richard (a local and responsible for our baggage transport from hotel to hotel) who told us about The Thames. I have booked him because of his huge knowledge about the area and his clear English. The walk was varied with a lot of taking, some games, songs, jokes, texts prepared by the walkers and some self defense training.💪 In Maidenhead we even had the opportunity to encounter the famous Swan Upping crew. Marvellous landscape and mansions completed the walk.Read more

Das kann man schlecht in Worte fassen. Selbst Bilder können diese Anlage nicht so darstellen wie sie real in ihrer Gesamtheit imponiert!
Leider darf man in den Gebäuden selber keine Bilder machen. Nur soviel: imposant!
Wir konnten die Grablege von Elisabeth und Philip sehen, in der St. Georges Chapel den beeindruckenden Chorraum mit der Eichenbestuhlung der Ritter des Hosenbandordens und deren Wappen.Read more

We left London this morning on another Rabbie's tour to visit Windsor, Stonehenge, Bath, the Cotswolds, and Oxford. Our first stop was at Windsor Castle. Several sections of the castle were closed to visitors because King Charles was in residence. He had returned here from London after the Trooping the Colour parade. We had just entered the exhibit of Queen Mary's dollhouse when the king walked past outside. Another member of our tour party took a picture that she shared with me.Read more
