    A sabbatical for many Vietnamese, and a must visit for world leaders, Ho Chi Minh’s house is situated in lovely gardens and close to his mausoleum. Also on display 3 cars used by him in the 1950’s. The Peugeot from the French, the other 2 from the Russians.Read more

  • Goodbye Vietnam

    After 10 weeks in Vietnam we say goodbye. Many great memories and experiences. Most notable. Daily beach swims and riding through paddy fields- Hoi An. Hue ancient fort.     Just a quick 1.5 hour flight from Hanoi to Bangkok. Looking forward to catching up with an old friend Ian, and his lovely Thai wife Min. Checked in to our great hotel $46.     A look around the area. Plenty of street and restaurant food. Close to the sky rail. A couple of coffee shops. Met Ian and Min and her nephew Boom at the huge Chatuchak weekend markets. Just the Aquarium and fish stalls were huge.Read more

  • A Temple

    Found out a largish temple was only a few train stops from us. Easy getting tickets. Then on to the Skytrain. An elevated line above the streets. The temple itself was nice without going over the top. Back to our local coffee shop where some nice ladies gave us some limes. 😳On the way back we walked past a Toyota Dealership. Their shrine had Zebras 🦓. 🤔.Read more

  • Back to the shopping centre

    Today Lynne went back to the shopping centre that has the cat and dog cafes, and pets shops with exotic animals. Also visited the legal cannabis stall. Finished the day with an excellent Pad Thai.

    Flew to Trang in the south with Ian & Min, to visit Min’s family home. Very rustic amongst cows and rubber tree plantations.

  • Tawana Resort

    We booked in for a couple of nights at the local motel. Neat little place run by a Thai lady and her English husband. She speaks english well and lived in Melbourne for 12 years. Also found out that she is also a cousin of. Min’s, which was a surprise to everyone. Finished the day with dinner at a restaurant set in rice paddy fields.Read more

  • Village Karaoke night

    From time to time Min’s family hires a Karaoke man. He has his speakers fixed in the back of his Ute. And away we go. Earlier in the day we enjoyed lunch sitting in a river.

  • Bamboo Market

    A highlight of our stay at Tawana is the breakfast. Congee, Pancakes, Fruit and sweets. We walked over to the weekend Bamboo markets but they were still setting up. Still enough interesting things to see. This afternoon we are off to Krabi for 4 nights.Read more

    After a long drive we arrived in Krabi. A resort area popular with westerners. Plenty of eateries, bars and cannabis shops to choose from. 😳. Dinner at the night markets which have live entertainment.

    We are staying in a nice resort with a great pool. About a 10 minute walk to the beach with spectacular views.Lots of bars with live music, restaurants by the dozens, weed stalls and tour guides.

    Our last day in Krabi Beach. Must thank Ian & Min bringing us here. Sunset at the beach bar, lazing by the pool and spotting some monkeys the highlights.

  • Bangkok layover

    Today after our morning walk along the beach, we fly from Krabi to Bangkok. A nights layover then on to Chiang Mai. Only way we could get decent times for the flight. Nice little hotel near the airport with a rooftop pool. Dinner at a local in a quirky little place nearby.Read more

    We arrived, after a short flight from Bangkok, in Chiang Mai. From the air and from the ground it looks like a great city. No excessive high rise and plenty of trees. After check in we strolled along the moat and past remnants of the old wall. Great bar with cold beers, water vapour keeping things cool, and Pad Thai.Read more

    A lazy day today. Due to the heat in SE Asia, it’s just too hot to go out much after 10am. Morning stroll today found some nice street art and plenty of coffee shops. Lunch was at a Pad Thai place that served nothing but variations of Pad Thai. We had one wrapped in an omelette. 2 juices and the total bill only came to $6.00AUD. Cannot go wrong with Pad Thai , the go to dish in Thailand.Read more

    We decided to see the ancient temple of Wat Chedi Luang. Not far to walk from our hotel. A magnificent precinct that includes monk quarters and a Buddhist University.

    The Old Town which is surrounded by the moat is a conglomeration of hostels, hotels, coffee and weed shops, bars & restaurants. And at night even more shops open up. Michelin noted Roti Street cart for dinner.Read more

  • Elephants

    Today, Lynne took a tour to an elephant sanctuary. She made sure it was ethical. No riding, chains etc. this sanctuary takes elephants primarily from farmers in the logging trade. Because they have grown up amongst humans, they can’t be released into the wild. At least they can live out their lives in relative peace. They particularly like to be fed sugar cane from the guests.Read more

    We are reliably told there are over 300 temples in Chiang Mai. Seems like one on every corner, much like the weed and 7 Eleven shops. Coffee across from the old wall.

  • Silver Temple

    Tonight we visit the Silver Temple. Unbelievable detail in the silver work. All really interesting but I can’t help thinking the money spent on religion could go more to the faithful.

  • Night Market

    Set off at 6pm for the night market. Stalls stretching as far as the eye can see. Tried a fried insect. Not bad as a snack with a beer. A pretty good Elvis kept the people entertained.
