  • Big Problem

    August 9, 2024 in Germany ⋅ ☁️ 27 °C

All ready to leave. Car to airport, 4pm, enough time to check in. Then it hit the fan. We forgot that baggage collection is after immigration, and that we didn’t have a Visa. Ok. No problem. We can take our bags on board, then we don’t need to go through immigration. And we could chuck stuff to meet weight restrictions. Nope. Vietjet said that we still had to go through Vietnam immigration. Why? We would be just transiting. Nope. They had us. 😱. So we had to get an urgent Visa that would be ready when we arrived. Thank you. That’s $750. USD please. 😲. No choice. We had to get our connecting flights to Beijing, then on to Frankfurt. PS. The reason they gave is that because it was another airline and they didn’t have a check through arrangement with Air China, they couldn’t check through baggage. ( see above re cabin luggage). Plane was 2hrs late but enough to get the connection to Beijing at 5.00am next day. And for some reason Vietjet were celebrating saving the elephant, both at check in and on board. With dancers and a quiz. 🤔. Lynne got a question right. Won a stuffed elephant, and promptly gave it to a little boy, to much approval. Got interviewed and we will see if we are on their website.Read more

Visited the neighbourhood where I stayed with my aunt and uncle for 4 months in 1974. Not much has changed, other than the building is now orange. Then over to Ebertzplatz for coffee and cake. 50 years ago, it has, in some ways, gone quickly.Read more

We just wandered around taking in the sites, dropping in to coffee shops and pubs, and enjoying the fantastic sunny days. Most notable was the raw mince with onion and bread. A Köln specialty. And the Kölsch beer, in the little glasses, where you knock off 20 odd before you know it! 😳Read more
