  • León to San Sebastián

    31 oktober 2024, Spanje ⋅ ⛅ 22 °C

A short walk to the station, and we are off on the train to San Sebastián. Not great news in the morning. Renfe, the State railway advised us that instead of train all the way through, we had to change to a bus at Vitoria. Ok. 1.5 hours on the bus. Should be ok. When we got there we were told 2 hours with no toilet break. Not so good. Thankfully there was a stop and we arrived at 7pm. Found our apartment ok, with a nice restaurant underneath. A couple of Pinxtos and a chicken Lasagna. Fantastic.Meer informatie

  • San Sebastián

    1 november 2024, Spanje ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C

We have a full day here. And what a day. Beautiful city, river, beach, sunny and 21 degrees. Had to go for a stroll, then a swim, then a sunset walk along the waterfront. Many buskers here. One was quite good. More Pinxtos and Paella for dinner. Great day.Meer informatie

  • Bayonne

    2 november 2024, Frankrijk ⋅ ☁️ 21 °C

Our short stay at San Sebastián has come to an end. On to the bus for Bayonne France. Only an hour away. Dropped off most of the passengers at Biarritz airport. A few minutes later we stop at a regular bus stop. End of the line? Si. Just walk 500m to the city along the river 😳. A lovely day, so no great hardship. We have a coffee and cake at the first cafe we find. Then to a bus stop and wait for the 30. The 30 took us about 30 min. to close to our stay. A wild ride down narrow winding streets 😬Meer informatie

  • The Beach

    3 november 2024, Frankrijk ⋅ ☁️ 22 °C

We thought a search of the area was a good idea. About 1km down the road is the beach. A very long beach as well, with views to Bayonne and the Pyrenees to the south, and vistas to the north. The open Atlantic is an impressive sight Unfortunately, swimming is banned due to the constant rips and undertows. Only the board riders have the sea to themselves. Later on, as we stroll through a park, we came across an unusual structure. A metal pole with chains. On it has printed “Disc Golf”. No idea what this means. After research, Disc Golf was invented by the man who invented the Frisbee in the 1960’s 🥏. It is played in courses in over 20 countries. Scoring is how many throws of the Disc/Frisbee it takes to hit the “hole”. 😬.Meer informatie

  • Bayonne Old Town

    5 november 2024, Frankrijk ⋅ ☁️ 24 °C

Small walk through the old town, encompassing the Cathedral and Roman walls. Plenty of coffee shops to choose from. We went into one, ordered 2 x coffees with milk, and got a frothy surprise 😮.

  • Tarnos

    6 november 2024, Frankrijk ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

Just a short bus trip to the Tarnos town centre, the suburb we are staying in. Our apartment is upstairs with a great verandah. Quite warm for this time of year. Early November and still wearing T-Shirts. An upmarket suburban area that has predominantly houses as the main residence for its people. Nice little church and a water tower with aquatic scene painted on it.Meer informatie

  • Chocolate

    9 november 2024, Frankrijk ⋅ ☁️ 17 °C

We have heard that Bayonne is the home of French Chocolate. This happened in the 17th century when Jews were banished from Portugal and Spain. So they set up just across the border with Spain and continued with their skill. Bought a few pieces and the flavours were amazing. The markets were also open today, with plenty of locals enjoying their Saturday.Meer informatie

  • Au Revoir Bayonne

    12 november 2024, Frankrijk ⋅ ☁️ 13 °C

Our last day in Bayonne. Unfortunately we have to wait till 6pm for our flight to Strasburg, via Lyon. And check out is 9.30am. Luckily we have a hostel that has left luggage and cosy lounge. To kill time we get on the free city bus and cruise through the streets. Get off on the other side of the cathedral and walk back through the old town.Meer informatie

  • Strasbourg

    13 november 2024, Frankrijk ⋅ ☁️ 7 °C

We arrived by plane last night. An hours flight to Lyon, then jump on the next flight to Strasbourg. Days are now cloudy and cold as we are now much further north. We have the tram right outside, so it’s only 15 minutes to the city centre. A mix of French & German architecture with an impressive gothic church in the centre, sitting on the border which is the Rhine River. In fact one tram line has 2 stops over the Rhine, in Kehl, Germany.Meer informatie

  • Kehl

    14 november 2024, Duitsland ⋅ ☁️ 7 °C

We thought we’d go to Germany today. Took the tram into town, changed to the D line, and 20 minutes later we were in Kehl. A quiet little town. Had a coffee and streusel kuchen. We grabbed fresh milk and a frozen pizza and back over to France. 🙂Meer informatie

  • République

    16 november 2024, Frankrijk ⋅ ⛅ 7 °C

Today’s Tram excursion drops us off to the wonderful square named République. Grand buildings and Autumn colours on the bank of one of the many estuaries running through this city.

  • La Citadelle

    17 november 2024, Frankrijk ⋅ ☁️ 8 °C

Today we take our F Tram to the other end. Quite close to the Rhine and the border. We walk to a large park that includes the old ramparts of the city. Built by Louis XIV (not him personally 🙂), to guard the Kingdom of France from those pesky Germans. On the way back we stop and admire yet another church on the water.Meer informatie

  • Parc de l’Orangarie

    19 november 2024, Frankrijk ⋅ 🌬 11 °C

A large park not far from the European Parliament and close to the banks of the Rhine commercial port. Still some autumn colours for the visitors and joggers to enjoy. On the way back to the tram we stop in to a fairly basic church from the outside, but the stain glass windows were stunning.Meer informatie

  • Heidelberg

    26 november 2024, Duitsland ⋅ ⛅ 10 °C

We were surprised that the Mannheim Tram system includes Heidelberg. So off we went. A 40 min ride along the Neckar River to this beautiful city. We strolled around the Altstadt and the Xmas markets. On the way home we took the long way back through Weinheim. Rural and suburban scenery between the two cities.Meer informatie
